At 60, after 33 years in practice, I realized a truth many professionals face: reinvention is difficult, but standing still in an evolving field is harder.

As I looked toward the future of chiropractic and spine care, it became clear to me that advanced spinal disc decompression represented one of the most exciting frontiers in helping patients. Once I made the decision to move forward, I did what I’ve always done throughout my life—I didn’t tiptoe in. I dove in.

Becoming certified in IDD Therapy and immersing myself in the science of spinal decompression has reignited my passion for learning. In many ways, I feel rejuvenated. I’ve probably studied more during the last six months than I did during the previous six years. This isn’t simply recredentialing or reviewing information I already knew. It’s learning entirely new concepts, technologies, and treatment approaches that have the potential to change patients’ lives.

Attending the grand opening of Disc Centers of America at my alma mater, Life University, last April was a defining moment for me. It crystallized a decision that had already begun to take shape in my mind. I could either embrace the future of my profession and continue growing, or I could slowly become a dinosaur—clinging to yesterday while the profession moved forward without me.

I will always believe that the skilled hands of a chiropractor and the spinal adjustment remain at the heart of what we do. Nothing will ever replace the value of that human connection and clinical expertise. But great professions evolve. New technologies emerge. Better methods are developed. And when evidence-based innovations become available that can help patients heal and avoid unnecessary surgery or prolonged pain, I believe it is my responsibility to learn them, understand them, research them, and master them.

The journey hasn’t been easy. It has required countless hours of studying, reading, training, and challenging myself to think differently. But after more than three decades in practice, I can honestly say I feel excited again. I feel like a student again. And that’s a wonderful place to be.

The future is bright, and I am more committed than ever to growing, evolving, and delivering the highest level of care possible—because every patient who walks through my door deserves not only my experience, but my unwavering dedication to becoming better for them every single day.
