One question I hear often is, “Why do you use manual therapy?”

The answer is simple: every child develops movement patterns based on how their body feels and moves.

For babies, gentle hands-on techniques can help address areas of tension, asymmetry, feeding challenges, torticollis, reflux-related positioning preferences, and restrictions that may impact developmental milestones.

For toddlers and young children, manual therapy can help improve mobility, body awareness, posture, and movement efficiency so they can better explore, play, and keep up with their peers.

For older children and teens, manual therapy can help address muscle tightness, postural imbalances, scoliosis-related restrictions, sports-related limitations, growing pains, and movement compensations that may affect strength, balance, and performance.

The KEY is that manual therapy is never a stand-alone treatment.

After improving mobility and reducing restrictions, we immediately work on strength, coordination, balance, motor skills, and functional movement through play and age-appropriate activities. This helps the body learn how to use its improved mobility in everyday life.

The diagnosis is only one small piece of the puzzle.

Every child is unique. Two children with the exact same diagnosis can have completely different strengths, challenges, goals, and ways of moving through the world.

I don’t treat diagnoses, I treat the child.

I look at how your child moves, plays, participates, learns, and navigates daily life. Then together, we build a plan that helps them reach their fullest potential.

Behind every diagnosis is a child who deserves to be seen for who they are, not just what’s written in their chart.

Summer is the perfect time to jump in the pool!

Swimming helps children:

🩵Build Strength
Water provides natural resistance to strengthen muscles without stressing joints.

🩵Improve Balance & Coordination
Swimming challenges the whole body to work together, improving motor skills and body awareness.

🩵 Boost Endurance
A great cardiovascular activity that helps improve heart and lung health.

🩵 Build Confidence
Learning new swim skills helps children build independence and self-esteem.

🩵 Encourage Social Skills
Swim lessons and pool play create opportunities for teamwork and making friends.

🩵 Learn Water Safety
Swimming is a life-saving skill every child should learn.

🩵 Most Importantly… Have FUN!
Kids are more likely to stay active when they’re enjoying themselves.

True story…. I’d rather be treating instead of cleaning.

Drop a 🙈 in the comments if I’m not alone.

Al, respectfully you cannot build trust with these kids, know their favorite toys, memorize their preferred end-of-session prizes, celebrate every tiny milestone with their families, or convince them to do therapy by pretending to be an animal.

Pediatric physical therapy is so much more than exercises and documentation its connection, creativity, and patience.

Families and therapists, comment the funniest thing you’ve ever done to get a child to participate in therapy/ play.

Things I wish I knew before graduating PT school and becoming a pediatric physical therapist

PT school teaches you anatomy, biomechanics, diagnoses, and interventions but there’s so much you only learn through experience.

You learn that progress isn’t linear.
That connection matters more than perfection.
That behavior is communication.
That collaboration matters.
And that some of the smallest wins become the biggest moments for families.

To every new grad, student, and pediatric therapist continuing to learn:
You are doing better than you think you are. Never give up!

Which one resonated with you most?
