CKD-MBD stands for chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder, a complication that affects how the body manages minerals like calcium and phosphorus, which over time can weaken bones and damage the heart and blood vessels. The risk is highest in patients with kidney failure who are on dialysis, and bone damage can develop over many years before anything is felt.
Your regular labs help your care team track these levels and adjust your plan to protect your bones and blood vessels. The National Kidney Foundation has an overview to help you learn more about CKD-MBD and how it is managed.

Learn how chronic kidney disease affects your bones and heart and the steps you can take to stay strong and protect your health.

Kidney disease doesn’t always affect men and women equally. Men are 1.6X more likely to develop kidney failure, and their kidney function tends to decline faster. That makes the work you do between treatments, such as keeping up with labs, managing blood pressure, and staying connected with your care team, some of the most important things you can do for your health. June is Men's Health Month and the ideal time to talk with your care team about your numbers and what they mean for your care plan. Learn more from the National Kidney Foundation:
