September is Vascular Disease Awareness Month.

Meet our newest addition: Amy West, PA-C!

Denise “Amy” West is a nationally board-certified physician assistant with over a decade of experience. She assisted in the start-up of a dermatology practice in rural southeast Kansas, and also has experience in rural Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, in-patient hospital and nursing home care.

Amy is a native of Wichita, Kansas, where she obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology at Friends University, graduating “With Honors.” She attended Wichita State University Physician Assistant Program graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Amy’s passion is medical dermatology, but she is excited to enhance her expertise in cosmetic and surgical dermatology (as there was only a small need for this in rural Kansas).

We are thrilled to welcome another skin expert to the team: Derek Walter Nickerson, MD!

Dr. Derek Walter Nickerson is a board-certified dermatologist and ACMS fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon specializing in skin cancer removal and complex surgical reconstruction.

Dr. Nickerson earned his medical degree at New York Medical College, where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Following an internship in medicine at UC Irvine, he completed dermatology residency training at Medical University of South Carolina. While serving as chief resident in his final year, he was selected for advanced training in a highly regarded fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology with Dr. Joel Cook—one of the top fellowships for reconstructive surgery in the country.

Krystalee is a board-certified physician assistant with over a decade of experience in the field. She has worked in dermatology, general surgery, family medicine and urgent care and places an emphasis on compassionate patient education.

Krystalee earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Western University of Health Sciences, graduating with honors, and graduated magna cm laude from BYU-Hawaii.

She lived in Hawaii for 13+ years and still travels back and forth from San Diego to her home on North Shore. The Spirit of Aloha is important to her and she does her best to share it with those she treats and interacts with.
