IMPORTANT TRAFFIC UPDATE: STH 25 NELSON BNSF RAIL CROSSING CLOSURE

As part of the upcoming rail crossing replacement project, STH 25 will be CLOSED at the base of the Wabasha Bridge beginning Monday, October 26 at 6:00 a.m. and will remain closed until Friday, October 30 at 4:00 p.m.

On the Wisconsin side, STH 25 will be closed at its intersection with STH 35 near the Handy Mart in Nelson, WI. No vehicle traffic will be permitted beyond this point to access the bridge area during the closure. Pedestrian traffic will not be allowed to cross the tracks either.

Motorists should plan ahead, as the nearest available Mississippi River crossings will be in Winona, MN, or Red Wing, MN. Travelers are encouraged to allow extra time and adjust routes accordingly.
The closure is necessary to allow crews to safely complete railroad crossing improvements. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this important transportation project is completed.

BNSF has been working with county entities, WI DOT and MN stakeholders to ensure that continued emergency services will be available to those in our community and neighboring communities.

Buffalo County Railroad Crossing Closure Update

Buffalo County has shared an important update regarding the BNSF Railroad crossing on STH 25 in Nelson, which will be closed from Monday, October 26 at 6:00 a.m. through Friday, October 30 at 4:00 p.m.

We encourage our followers to follow the Buffalo County, Wisconsin page and the Buffalo County Wisconsin Sheriff's Office page for the latest updates as the project progresses.

In response to this closure, our Alma Clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to help meet patient needs. If you would like to be seen in Wabasha, please use one of the two detour options available through Winona or Red Wing.

Jake’s Field of Dreams has been harvested, and our hearts are full with gratitude.

This year’s crop was corn, and thanks to the support of so many generous people and partners, the harvest was a success. We harvested 8,963.49 bushels, with moisture ranging from 14.5% to 16.3%, averaging 222 bushels per acre and selling at $4.07 per bushel. In all, Jake’s Field of Dreams generated over $36,000 this year.

This project is only possible because of a community that shows up, gives generously, and believes in something bigger than themselves. We are deeply thankful to Ag Partners for donating fertilizer, Bob Shanks and MN Ag Group of Plainview for preparing the land and planting the crop, Eric Heins with Renk Seed for donating the seed, Joe Feils and Consolidated Energy Company for providing fuel, Russ Meyer for coordinating trucks, and Phil Evers and Evers Farm for donating the trucks and drivers to haul the corn.

A special thank you to Bernie and Karen Sheehan for doing the combining and providing a tractor and grain cart. We’re also grateful to Wabasha Sand & Gravel, the Kohner Family, Cardinal Health, and Riverview Cemetery for donating their land and helping make this project possible.

Jake’s Field of Dreams is more than a harvest. It’s a reminder of what rural communities can do when they come together to support one another. That spirit matters deeply, especially in rural healthcare, where community support helps us continue caring for our neighbors, families, and friends close to home. And as we celebrate this harvest, let’s also take a moment to thank the farmers who feed our communities and the people in the ag industry who support their work every day.

💙 Emplify Health by Gundersen, Wabasha, is offering a FREE 7-week Bereavement Support Group for adults 18+ who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

“Learning to Live With Loss” provides a safe space to share, connect, and find support on your grief journey. Led by experienced volunteer facilitators, this group meets weekly and offers helpful materials to take home.

📅 When: Mondays, September 21 to November 2 | 5:30–7 p.m.
