A lifeline starts with learning how to help others stay safe for now…🧡💙💚
Over the weekend, I had the privilege of spending time with an incredible group of dedicated individuals who are committed to becoming safe people, supportive listeners, and potential lifelines for someone experiencing thoughts of su***de.
Last year, I had the pleasure of meeting Katherine when she was my supervisee during her M.S. program. She shared with me about the important work happening in our community around su***de prevention, intervention, and postvention. Her work, passion, commitment, and genuine heart for this work immediately inspired me to learn more.
Fast forward a year, and I found myself sitting in her training, this time as a lifelong learner proudly learning from her, and what makes that even more special…? Katherine is now a graduate, an LPC-A, and the owner of her own private practice. Watching people grow into the professionals they are called to become is one of the greatest joys of this field. ❤️
Yes, we had a wonderful time. Yes, I met some amazing people, but honestly, the subject matter was the most skill building and engaging part of it all.
Every day, someone in our community experiences thoughts of su***de and every day, someone like you has the opportunity to make a difference.
🚩And this is the part that may sound like an infomercial BUT I DONT CARE LISTEN UP, this is about literal LIFE OR DEATH….
Yesterday I completed LivingWorks ASIST (Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training), a practical, hands-on training designed to give everyday people the confidence, knowledge, and skills to recognize when someone may be at risk, have a meaningful conversation, and intervene when it matters most.
You don’t have to be a counselor. You don’t have to be a mental health professional. You don’t have to have all the answers.
You simply have to be willing to care, listen, learn, and take action.
When we equip ourselves with these skills, we become part of a Network of Safety, a community of people who are prepared to step in, offer hope, and help someone stay safe.
If you’ve ever thought, “I wouldn’t know what to say if someone told me they were thinking about su***de,” I encourage you to consider getting trained.
The right skills, at the right moment, can make a life-changing difference.
Thank you, Katherine, for sharing your knowledge, passion, and heart for this work. Thank you to everyone who showed up ready to learn, listen, and become a safer person for others. 🧡💙💚
Let’s keep learning. Let’s keep talking. Let’s keep building communities where people don’t have to face their darkest moments alone.🌿🌿🌿
