🤔Are you exercising..or are you training?

There’s actually a difference!

Exercise is movement. Going for a walk, doing a workout video, hopping on the treadmill, or grabbing some dumbbells and doing a few exercises.

And that’s all great! Movement matters.

But training has a purpose.

Training means following a plan designed to help you improve something specific. Maybe that’s building strength, improving balance, getting up off the floor more easily, or simply making everyday activities less exhausting.

It means paying attention to what you’re doing, how you’re progressing, and when it’s time to make adjustments.

And here’s something that surprises people…

A good training program doesn’t need to be constantly changing to be effective.

In fact, repeating movements and gradually improving your ability to perform them is a big part of how we build strength!

That’s one of the things I love about coaching. I’m not just giving someone exercises to fill an hour. I’m helping them work toward something that matters in their everyday life.

Because the goal isn’t just to get through another workout.

The goal is to become more capable outside of it. ❤️

Sometimes even the coach needs a little coaching. And apparently, a good old-fashioned piece of paper! 😂

I’ve been struggling lately to find my own determination when it comes to my workouts.

Not because I don’t know what to do. I’ve been strength training for years. I know how to build a program, I know what works, and I certainly know the benefits.

But knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things!

Somewhere along the way, I lost a little of that excitement and determination I used to have for my own training.

So I’ve been doing some reflecting. What worked for me before? What did I enjoy? What made me look forward to my workouts instead of feeling like I was just checking another task off my list?

And I’ve decided to go old school!

I’m pulling out one of my old training books, choosing a structured 12-week strength training program, and going back to good old-fashioned pen and paper.

No searching for a workout every day. No wondering what exercises I should do. Just a plan, a notebook, and a commitment to showing up.

And here’s something I remind my clients of all the time:

You don’t have to feel motivated to get started. Sometimes getting started is exactly what brings that motivation back.

I’ve spent years helping women find their way back to taking care of themselves. And sometimes I need to practice the same advice I give them.

So here’s to the next 12 weeks! Not chasing perfection. Just getting back to doing something I genuinely enjoy.

Anyone else ever find that sometimes going back to the basics is exactly what you need? Let me know in the comments!

Your health doesn’t have to be another full-time job.

I think sometimes we make taking care of ourselves a whole lot more complicated than it needs to be.

We think we need the perfect workout schedule, a completely overhauled diet, hours of meal prepping, and enough motivation to keep it all going.

And when life doesn’t cooperate? We feel like we’ve failed.

But here’s something I remind my clients of often:

You don’t need to do everything. You need to figure out what you can do consistently.

Maybe that’s strength training twice a week.

Maybe it’s learning how to build more balanced meals without following another diet.

Maybe it’s finally making sleep, stress management, or your own needs a priority.

The goal isn’t to build your entire life around getting healthier. It’s to build healthier habits that actually fit into your life.

And that’s exactly what we work on here at Make Fitness Fun 4 You.

Have a great weekend, ladies! 💜

Your health and fitness goals should fit INTO your life. Not take OVER your life.

I spent the last several days camping with family, enjoying some time away from the usual routines.

And you know what? That’s part of a healthy lifestyle, too!

Sometimes we get so caught up in doing everything “right” that we forget why we’re working on our health in the first place.

We want the strength to do the things we enjoy. The energy to spend time with people we love. The ability to get out, explore, and experience life.

And sometimes that means a few days without your usual workouts, eating a little differently, staying up later, or simply enjoying yourself without worrying about checking all the boxes.

A few days outside your routine don’t undo months or years of consistency.

In fact, learning how to step away from your routine and comfortably return to it is an important part of building sustainable habits.

It’s Monday. I’m back to my regular schedule, and I’m looking forward to another week of helping women build the strength, confidence, and habits that allow them to enjoy more of life!

Because the goal isn’t to build a life around fitness. It’s to build fitness into a life you love.

What’s your WHY?

This week, I had all my clients work through a little self-awareness exercise to help them reconnect with their goals and hopefully find a little renewed motivation along the way.

Because sometimes we get so caught up in the routine of working toward a goal that we forget WHY we wanted it in the first place.

Maybe your goal is to lose weight.
Get stronger.
Have more energy.
Exercise consistently.
Eat better.

Great. But… why?

And don’t stop at the first answer.

“I want to lose weight.”

Why?

“Because I want to feel better.”

Why does that matter?

“Because I want more energy.”

Why does THAT matter?

“Because I want to be able to do more with my family and stay active as I get older.”

Now we’re getting somewhere!

Your goal is what you want to accomplish.
Your WHY is why accomplishing it actually matters to you.

And knowing your why doesn’t mean you’ll suddenly wake up motivated every morning. You’re still going to have days when you don’t feel like exercising, cooking, going for a walk, or doing any of the things you said you wanted to do.

But reconnecting with your why can remind you that those little daily choices are about something much bigger than the task itself.

So, just like I challenged my clients this week, I’m challenging you!

Think of one goal you’re working toward and ask yourself “Why does this matter to me?”

Then ask why again.

And again.

See where you end up.

Because motivation comes and goes.

Knowing why you started can help you keep going when motivation isn’t there. And building habits around that purpose is what helps create lasting change!

Most women I talk to already know a lot about health.

They know vegetables are good for them.
They know protein matters.
They know they should move more, get stronger, drink water, and probably get more sleep.

The hard part usually isn’t knowing.

It’s figuring out how to actually make those things work in your life — with your schedule, your body, your limitations, your stress, and everything else competing for your attention.

That’s where coaching comes in.

We take all the “I know I should…” stuff and turn it into something realistic that you can actually DO — and keep doing.

And no, it doesn’t have to start with overhauling your entire life. Usually, it starts much smaller than that.

If you’re ready for some structure, support, and a plan built around you, you can schedule a consultation here:

One of my favorite parts of my job?

When a client walks in with a question.

Because I usually don’t just blurt out the answer.

We talk about it.

“What do you think?”
“Where did you hear that?”
“Why do you think that happens?”
“What have you noticed in your own life?”

And sometimes we end up having the BEST discussions.

Because coaching shouldn’t just be me telling you what to eat, how to exercise, or what habit you need to work on next.

I want you to understand the why behind what we’re doing.

I want you to learn how your body works.
How nutrition works.
Why we train the way we do.
How sleep and stress fit into the picture.
And how to sort through all the health and fitness information constantly being thrown at you.

Because learning is one of the most important building blocks of lasting change.

If I simply tell you what to do, you might be able to follow a plan.

But if you understand why you’re doing it?

Now you’re building skills you can use for the rest of your life.

And THAT is one of my favorite parts of coaching!

I have a few afternoon and evening training spots open! 💪

If you’re looking for a place to get stronger, move better, and finally have some structure and accountability with your health — I have room for a few more women.

This isn’t a gym membership where you’re handed a key and left to figure it out.

You’ll have your workouts planned for you, coaching while you train, and a program built around YOUR starting point — whether you’re brand new to strength training, getting back into it after a long break, or working around limitations that make exercise a little more complicated.

Training is semi-private, with no more than a few women scheduled at a time, so you still get plenty of individual coaching without the pressure or atmosphere of a big gym.

I currently have just a few openings in my afternoon and evening schedule Monday–Thursday.

Cold and flu season is here 🤧

And sometimes the hardest part isn’t being sick — it’s figuring out how to get back into your normal routine afterward.

You might be well enough to go back to work and do normal life stuff…but your energy still isn’t quite there.

This is NOT the time to try to “make up” for everything you missed.

Start smaller.

If you normally work out for 45 minutes, maybe your first workout back is 20–30.
Use lighter weights. Take longer rests. Skip the finisher.

Keep meals simple and focus on getting regular meals, protein and fluids back in — not trying to eat “perfectly.”

And if your body is telling you it needs another recovery day? Take it. A week of being sick doesn’t erase your progress.

The goal isn’t to pick up exactly where you left off. The goal is simply to start moving toward your normal routine again.

Sometimes 50% is exactly what your body needs before it’s ready for 100%.

See those 3-pound dumbbells in the front? That’s where one of my clients started a year ago.

I recently asked a client who has now been training with me for a full year to look back at where she started and what has changed.

When I asked about her biggest win, she didn’t give me a number on the scale.

She said:

“Sticking to the commitments and following through.”

THAT is a win.

She went from starting with 3- and 5-pound hand weights to using 10s and 12s. She’s strength training twice a week. She’s more comfortable and confident using weights, adjusting them and knowing proper form.

And after a year, strength training isn’t something she’s trying to start anymore.

It’s something she does.

My favorite part might be what she would tell another woman considering investing in herself:

“Go for it! You can’t go backwards, only forwards and Nicole will make it fun!”

I’ll happily take that review! ❤️

Congratulations on one full year of getting stronger, showing up and following through. I’m excited to see what year two brings!
