Loreta Elizabeth Kirksey (Harbuck), age 88, of Wagoner, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Loreta was born on January 30, 1938, in Antlers, Oklahoma, to Albert Lee Harbuck and Stella Ora Harbuck (Ralls). In 1956, she left school to marry John Mark Bowser. Together they had four children: Mark, Loreta Jane, Paul, and John Allen.

At the age of 27, Loreta returned to school, earned her GED, and completed coursework in clerical studies. She began her career at the OSU Extension Center in Oklahoma City and later worked for Skaggs/Albertsons, where she managed the cosmetics department.

On April 25, 1982, Loreta married Cecil Kirksey and gained four additional children through marriage: Cecil Lynn, Jan, Rick, and Kim.

Loreta was a devoted member of Freedom Point Church. She was an avid gardener with a well-known green thumb and took great pride in her beautiful gardens. She also had a passion for collecting dolls and built an extensive collection, which she loved sharing with her grandchildren.

A talented seamstress, Loreta created countless beautiful quilts for family and friends. Perhaps she was best known for her love of deer hunting. Each hunting season, she joined her family at their cabin and often matched—or outperformed—the men in the family. She deeply loved the lake and the outdoors. Loreta and Cecil always kept boats so their children could ski, swim, and fish, creating many cherished family memories during summers spent together on the water.

More than anything, Loreta was the heart of two large families, bringing them together and helping keep them close through the years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Loreta was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Stella Harbuck; her siblings, Minnie Harris, Olaf Henry Harbuck, Atward Jefferson Harbuck, Alfred Lee Harbuck, Kelcie Kermit Harbuck, Theodore “Dody” Harbuck, Floyd Harbuck, Farles Melton Harbuck, and John Wesley Harbuck; her husband, Cecil Kirksey; her children, Loreta Jane Bowser, Paul Bowser, and John Allen Bowser; and, Cecil Lynn Kirksey.

She is survived by her children, Mark Bowser and wife Mitzi, Jan Bell and husband Jim, Ricky Kirksey, and Kim Kirksey Bwoga and husband John, Shelly and husband Josh, Lisa, David and wife Ellen; grandchildren Steven, Donavahn, Rickey, Oliver, Kristen, Cynthia, Desiree, Cheyenne, and Kim; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Emma, Mya, Bridgett, Maeve, Gigi, and Shai; as well as many friends and extended family members.

A viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Shipman Funeral Home in Wagoner, Oklahoma.

Loreta will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Cecil, at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, Oklahoma.

“Hey Mom, have you shared the news yet?”

I’ve watched you pray down here.
I’ve watched you cry down here.
I’ve watched God bring peace to your heart down here.

So why are you still hiding me?

There are people carrying burdens they were never meant to carry alone. There are families who need a place to gather, heal, laugh, remember, and reconnect with God and one another.

Maybe this little creek has always been about more than water.

Maybe it’s been about healing.

Love,
Samson ❤️🐾

Something I have personally discovered is this. One of the biggest battles of grief is something no one really talks about.

It’s not always the funeral.
It’s not always the visitation.
It’s not even the day you say your final goodbye. Or even the financial burden that comes with a loss.

Sometimes the hardest part comes afterward. Trying to decide how to find the strength to keep living yourself.

Especially after you’ve buried a huge part of your heart, the world expects you to somehow step back into life like nothing ever happened. To go back to work. To answer messages. To laugh again. To make plans. To sit at dinner tables with an empty chair. To walk into places filled with memories and somehow keep moving forward.

The truth is, grief changes you. You didn’t just bury your loved one. You buried parts of yourself that you weren’t prepared to let go of.

The person you were before that loss no longer exists in quite the same way. Part of healing isn’t learning how to “get over” someone you loved. It’s learning how to carry their memory while continuing to live the life you’ve been given.

And that’s hard. And is not spoken about enough. Which leaves so many feeling like they are trapped in a world they can’t get out of.

Some days you’ll feel strong. Other days, a song, a smell, a picture, or a random memory will bring tears to your eyes when you least expect it. You heart breaks again in a million pieces. With so many questions that seem to have no answers.

If you’re walking through grief give yourself grace.

You are not weak because you’re struggling to step back into the world. You are learning how to live after losing someone who helped make your world what it was. And on top of that rediscovering what life looks like for you as you move forward.

That takes courage.

One breath.
One step.
One day at a time.

And if no one has told you lately, it’s okay to miss them forever. And it’s okay to step back and take time for yourself. Healing from grief matters more than we know.
