First Volunteer Day with Ka Poholima Kā'eo helping to restore the water way at Waihe’e was a great way to honor the beautiful land we get to call home. We got to enjoy the beautiful weather, meet new friends, and learn how to care for the ‘āina.

Next volunteer day is September 12th if you missed this month!

A positive attitude and willingness to learn and kōkua
Please be gentle when handling pōhaku — as they have feelings too.

🌞 Summer Sunday Sutra 🌞

The very first sutra emphasis two important components of yoga:

The power of NOW: : The use of “Atha” emphasizes that yoga is not something to be postponed to the future. Yoga is a sacred door that opens up with presence.

A call to DISCIPLINE: The term “anuśāsanam” indicates that yoga is a methodical practice and a continuous discipline. It suggests that the teachings are being transmitted within a traditional framework, meant to follow prior preparation.

🌞 Sunday Summer Sutra 🌞

Today’s sutra explains that when we experience something pleasant, the mind clings to that memory, creating a continuous desire to repeat the experience and a fear of losing it.

Yogic practice encourages enjoying life’s comforts without allowing them to dictate your inner peace.

How are enjoying the pleasures of life without attachment?

🌞 Summer Sunday Sutra 🌞

This sutra describes the first step in the trio of deep meditations. It is the practice of fixing your flow of consciousness onto a single point of focus.

During Dhāraṇā, you deliberately anchor your attention. Common focal points used by practitioners include:

🧘🏻‍♀️Internal energy centers (such as the navel or the heart chakra)

🧘‍♂️Physical features (like the tip of the nose or the third eye between the eyebrows)

🧘🏾‍♀️An external object, a mantra, or a visualization

When this focused concentration is sustained over time, it naturally evolves into Dhyana (meditation). Together with Samadhi (oneness) , these three continuous steps form Samyama, the ultimate tool used to achieve deep insight and clarity in the Yoga Sutras.

What is your favorite dharma a technique?
