Today feels a little less sparkly. 💔✨

Dolly Parton gave the world a lifetime of music, laughter, kindness, and joy. Her songs became the soundtrack to so many lives, including those of generations of residents throughout The Waters.

We’ve sung along to her music, danced to her songs, dressed up in her honor, shared stories about her, and made more than a few wonderful memories along the way.

Today, as we look back on one of those fun-filled Dolly days at The Waters, these photos feel just a little more special. 🤍

Dolly, thank you for the music. Thank you for the laughter. Thank you for the generosity, the rhinestones, the big hair, the bigger heart, and all the joy you shared with the world.

Today we say goodbye, but we also celebrate one incredible life and a legacy that will live on for generations.

Rest in peace, Dolly. 🦋✨

🧊 Ice, Ice Baby! 🍦😎

We celebrated with a little adventure at The Waters of Wakarusa! Our residents headed out to The Chief Ice Cream for some delicious ice cream before taking a scenic tour of the beautiful Quilted Flower Gardens throughout the area. 🌸🌼

Ice cream, fresh air, beautiful views, and even better company made for an afternoon well spent!

Because if anyone deserves a day dedicated to them, it’s our residents! ❤️

This summer, one of our residents has been keeping very busy — and his hard work has certainly paid off! 🌱🍅

Larry Clouse planted his very own vegetable garden this year, and it’s been quite the harvest! From juicy red tomatoes and crisp radishes to fresh green peppers, Larry has been growing plenty of goodness right outside our doors.

Gardening is about so much more than what ends up on the table. It’s a wonderful way to stay active, spend time outdoors, work toward something rewarding, and experience the satisfaction of watching something you planted grow. And we have to admit… everything tastes a little better when it’s fresh from the garden! 🫑

We’ve loved watching Larry’s garden grow this summer — and we’ve especially enjoyed getting to taste the delicious results of all his hard work!

There’s nothing quite like a day at the county fair! 🎡🐄

Last month, we packed up and headed to the Elkhart County 4-H Fair for Senior Day, and it was such a great outing! Our residents enjoyed visiting the animals, treating themselves to some must-have fair food, and hopping aboard the tram for a ride around the fairgrounds.

The day was extra special for our resident Birdena Bollenbacher, whose two grandchildren earned ribbons for the clothing they made. What a proud grandma moment and such a wonderful accomplishment to celebrate! 🏅🧵

Between the sights, the food, the familiar faces, and a little family pride, it was definitely a day well spent at the fair!

We’d like to give a special thank you to Heather and Charlene, who recently shared a little beauty straight from their own gardens with our residents. They cut fresh flowers and brought them in so residents could have a beautiful vase of blooms to brighten their rooms.

Such a simple, thoughtful gesture can make someone’s day a little brighter, and we’re so grateful for the kindness Heather and Charlene shared with our residents! 💕💐

Nothing like a little shopping and a country drive! 🛒

Yesterday, we loaded up the bus and headed out to Dented Can. From fresh produce and deli favorites to homestyle preserves and surplus grocery finds, there was plenty to browse and bring home.

Of course, half the fun is getting there! Our residents always love a good country ride, taking in the scenery, chatting along the way, and enjoying a change of pace together. 🚐

Root beer floats + good company = a pretty sweet afternoon!

On Thursday, we celebrated with a resident favorite! Everyone enjoyed getting together, catching up, and sipping on a classic summertime treat.

We also loved seeing one of our newest Personal Care Attendants join in on the fun! She helped pass out the floats while spending time getting to know our residents — because sometimes the best connections start over a scoop of ice cream and a little root beer. 🍻

Last Sunday, we celebrated with two very special members of our Waters family! 💙

Meet Sharon Haviland, our Head of Housekeeping, and Karen Carden, our Activity Director. Not only are they sisters—they’re twins! 👯‍♀️

For the past 25 years, Sharon and Karen have dedicated themselves to caring for our residents and supporting our team. Their kindness, compassion, and commitment have made a lasting impact, and they truly love what they do. They both say they feel incredibly blessed to be part of The Waters of Wakarusa family.

Recently, we said goodbye to someone very special at The Waters of Wakarusa. 💙

After 22 years of dedicated service, Deb Scheets, one of our incredible Personal Care Attendants, has retired. Over the years, Deb has touched the lives of so many residents, families, and coworkers with her compassion, kindness, and unwavering dedication. She will be greatly missed by everyone who has had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.

Deb, thank you for the countless lives you’ve impacted over the past 22 years. We wish you nothing but happiness, relaxation, and exciting new adventures in this next chapter.

Congratulations on your well-earned retirement!
