If you've ever sat in a noisy restaurant and struggled to follow the conversation, you have something in common with one of the most famous rock musicians alive.
Dave Grohl — drummer for Nirvana, frontman of Foo Fighters, two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer — has been reading lips for about 20 years. He has tinnitus and hearing damage, worse in his left ear from decades of snare drums and stage monitors. In a crowded restaurant, he says, there is no way he could follow a conversation.
When the lights go off at night, he describes it as a constant high-pitched tone that never stops. 👂
And yet he still performs. Still records. Still tours.
His story is a good reminder of two things:
1️⃣ Hearing loss doesn’t discriminate. It happens to people at the top of their game, not just the elderly.
2️⃣ The longer you wait to understand what is happening, the harder things become.
The crowded restaurant. The conversation you half-followed. The ringing that shows up at the end of a loud day… if any of this sounds familiar, it might be worth a conversation. We are here.

When it comes to hearing aids, the experience you receive matters just as much as the devices themselves. 🦻💛

Big‑box stores may seem convenient, but personalized care can make a world of difference. One helpful tip: always ask whether your hearing aids can be serviced anywhere, or if the programming is locked, it can impact your long‑term flexibility and support.

Our goal is simple 👉 to help you hear your best with guidance, comfort, and care that’s tailored to you. You deserve solutions that fit your life, not just your budget!

If you’re a patient of ours, you have probably heard us say this a million times. 😂

We hear with our ears, we understand with out brain! 🧠

Hearing is not only about detecting sound, but about how the brain processes and makes sense of it.

As part of a comprehensive hearing evaluation, we often include word recognition and speech in noise testing. This allows us to assess higher-level auditory processing and better understand how your brain interprets incoming sounds, especially in real-world listening situations.

This information helps us make the most appropriate and personalized treatment recommendations.

And now you know! 💡✨

Is it a 'clogged' feeling or something more? 🌊👂

With the pools officially open, we tend to see a slight uptick in patients complaining of ear fullness. During the summer, it can be hard to tell the difference between a simple wax buildup and Swimmer’s Ear (an infection of the outer ear canal).

A quick tip: If your ear feels full, resist the urge to use a Q-tip! This often pushes wax deeper against the eardrum, making the problem worse, especially when it gets wet.

If you’re experiencing pain when you touch your outer ear, it might be time for a professional look.

Are you or your kids a frequent swimmer? We offer custom swim plugs to keep your ears dry and healthy all summer long!

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is: 'Do I have to take my hearing aids out for the TSA scanner?' 🤔

The short answer? Nope! You generally do not need to remove your hearing aids to go through security.

However, some of our patients prefer to head through security with their “ears” off. If you have mild hearing loss and feel more comfortable removing your devices for the scanners, just make sure your storage case is handy in your carry-on. Keeping them tucked away in their proper home ensures they stay safe and sound while you navigate the terminal! Also, if you have rechargeable devices with a smart charger, make sure to pack your charger in your carry-on bag since the batteries in the chargers are not allowed in the baggage area.

As summer begins, routines shift, and listening environments change. Outdoor gatherings, busy restaurants, family events… and more background noise. ☀️

Even the best hearing aids have limitations and are designed to aid hearing, not replace it entirely.

The good news is that hearing aid technology continues to improve, especially for speech in noise.

If your hearing aids are five years or older, newer technology may offer better clarity in the situations that challenge you most. 🦻

Summer conversations should feel easier.

June is Men’s Health Month, and while we talk a lot about heart health and screenings, there’s one vital sense that often gets overlooked: your hearing. 😰

In the summer, hobbies like lawn mowing, motorcycling, and woodworking are in full swing here in North Carolina.

These activities often exceed 85dB, the level where permanent damage can begin. While we understand women are exposed to these environments as well, statistically, men are more likely to experience noise-induced hearing loss.

You don’t have to give up the hobbies you love. You just have to protect your ears while you do them. 👂 If you’ve noticed a new ringing in your ears after a Saturday in the yard, let's chat.
