🍀 Helping your little lucky charm turn both ways! 🍀
Some babies develop a head-turn preference (also called torticollis) and tend to look to one side more than the other. The goal is to encourage them to turn toward the side they like less to help stretch and strengthen their neck.
✨ Simple things you can try at home:
👶 Switch up diaper changes – Change which side your baby’s head is on at the changing table so they have to turn toward their less-preferred side. This also gives their neck a gentle stretch.
🛏 Move the bassinet position – Try positioning the bassinet so your baby has to turn toward the side they don’t prefer to look at you.
🍼 Encourage the weaker side during feeding – Position feedings so your baby turns their head toward the side they don’t like as much.
😊 Use yourself as motivation – Sit, talk, and play with your baby from the side they avoid so they want to turn their head to see you!
💚 Tummy time every day – Tummy time helps stretch and strengthen neck muscles. Aim for about 1 hour total per day (broken up throughout the day!).
If your baby is showing a strong side preference, the PTs and OTs at Kid Sense Therapy would love to help! Early support can make a big difference.
