Ronald Emil Gierek, 89, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026. Born on July 28, 1937, in Passaic, New Jersey, Ronald was the beloved son of the late Frank Gierek and the late Bertha (Drozd) Gierek.

Ronald was raised in Passaic and was a proud graduate of Passaic High School. He continued his education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he developed a lifelong love of the game of ping pong and became an accomplished player.

In 1968, Ronald settled in Garfield, New Jersey, where he remained until 1997. That year, he moved to Athens, Tennessee, where he made his home for the remainder of his life.

Ronald enjoyed a long and successful career as an accountant with Lipton Tea in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, where he dedicated 25 years of service before retiring in 1989. Throughout his career, he was known for his dedication, intelligence, and strong work ethic.

A longtime parishioner of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Passaic, Ronald was also a member of the Holy Rosary Young Men’s Club.

Outside of work, Ronald found great joy in the simple things in life. He enjoyed memorable fishing trips to Alaska, visits to the casino, and, above all, following sports. Artur Kowalczyk, of Garfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, at the age of 46. He was born on August 3, 1980, in Zambrów, Poland, to Kazimierz Kowalczyk and the late Barbara (Baginska) Kowalczyk.

Artur spent his early years in his beloved Poland before coming to the United States at the age of 15. He settled in Garfield, New Jersey, where he built a life filled with family, friendships, hard work, and countless cherished memories.

Artur was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Sylwia Ewa (Tyszka) Kowalczyk, and a loving father whose greatest joy was his children, Patryk and Nicole. His family was at the center of his life, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, whether traveling, enjoying the outdoors, or simply being together.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Artur spent many years working in the cleaning industry as a carpet cleaner with Interior Preservation Inc. in Wyckoff, where he was employed for approximately 10 years. He also worked for A1 Granite in Wallington for 10 years as a skilled granite installer. He took pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.

Artur had a love for life and enjoyed many interests that brought him happiness. He loved riding motorcycles, traveling, picking mushrooms, and spending time with his family. Donna Marie Chirlo, 67, of Wallington, NJ, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on October 2, 2026. Donna was born on October 5, 1958 to Donald and Eleanor O’Brien. Born in Mineola, Donna then moved to West Nyack where she grew up. While working at Time Share, Donna met the love of her life Michael whom she married and spent 42 wonderful years together raising their two children. Donna enjoyed working at Stop and Shop, formerly Grand Union, for more than 20 years and cherished every friend she made along the way. She had a love of animals and spent many of her adult years adopting pets that needed a home. However, her greatest joys came from the time she spent with her children and granddaughter.

Donna is survived by her husband Michael D Chirlo, daughter Shannon Chirlo and fiancé Sam Weglietner, son Jason Chirlo and wife Amanda, granddaughter Eleanor, and six siblings. She was predeceased by her beloved parents Deacon Donald and Eleanor O'Brien and her sister Shannon O'Brien.

Ann Dzwilewski, 94, of Garfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026. Born on July 19, 1932, in Garfield, Ann was a lifelong resident of the community she loved and called home throughout her entire life.

Ann was the beloved daughter of the late Andrew Dzwilewski and the late Angela (Piela) Dzwilewski. She was a woman who cherished family, tradition, and the close-knit community that surrounded her.

Together with her sister Genevieve and their mother, Ann was a co-founder of Genevieve's Home Made Chocolates in Garfield, a beloved local business that became a cherished part of the community. Through her work there, Ann shared not only her dedication and talents, but also her warmth and kindness with countless people over the years.

Ann was a longtime parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church in Garfield, where her faith and connection to her community remained an important part of her life.

She was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Genevieve, Fred, Frank, and Thadeus Dzwilewski.

Ann leaves behind her loving nephew David Dzwilewski and his wife Kathy, as well as her cherished great-nieces, Kayla and Karlie. She will also be sadly missed by her many loving cousins, along with all those whose lives she touched throughout her long and meaningful life.

Malgorzata “Gosia” Agnieszka Doktor, 50, passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Gosia was born on May 30, 1976, in Szczucin, Poland, to Czeslaw Doktor and Janina (Oszywa) Doktor. She grew up in Szczucin, surrounded by family and the Polish traditions that remained an important part of her life. Around 1999, she made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States, where she worked hard to build a beautiful life and future for herself and her family. She first called Wallington, New Jersey, home, later lived in Garfield, and in 2021 settled with her family in Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania.

Education was an important part of Gosia’s life. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she found her calling in teaching. For 13 years, she served the Paterson community as an educator, including teaching English as a Second Language. To Gosia, teaching was about much more than academics. She cared deeply about her students, many of whom were finding their own way in a new country and learning a new language—an experience she understood personally. She encouraged them, believed in them, and wanted them to know that with hard work and determination, new beginnings were possible.

But as much as Gosia loved teaching, her greatest love was always her family.

Dorothy Catherine Miller, a lifelong resident of Elmwood Park, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026 at Victoria Mews Assisted Living In Boonton, NJ at the age of 97.

Dorothy was born in Garfield, NJ, in 1929 to the late Olga (née Kwiatkowski) and Walter Miller. She was raised in Garfield and graduated from Garfield High School in 1946. Dorothy moved to Elmwood Park with her family in 1949, where she remained until 2024. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Leo’s RC Church in Elmwood Park. Dorothy began her career in 1946 as a Purchasing Manager at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, NJ, where she worked until her retirement in 1990.

Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her large family, her many friends, and members of the Eustice family. As our primary historian, she was the key source of knowledge on our family's early history. Dorothy is survived by her cousins Edward Kwiatkowski and Anita Kwiatkowski and family of Wharton, NJ; George Kwiatkowski and Susie Kwiatkowski of Mahwah, NJ; and Louis Kwiatkowski, and Lauren Kwiatkowski of Garfield, NJ.

One of Dorothy’s greatest life blessings was being born within weeks of her next-door Garfield neighbor, Gloria Eustice, with whom she remained the closest of friends until Gloria’s passing in 2022. Thomas James Stanko, of Garfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, at the age of 66. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, on September 5, 1960, Thomas was a lifelong resident of Garfield and a cherished member of his community.

Thomas was the beloved husband of Megan Stanko (nee McMurtrie), with whom he shared a loving marriage since 1995. His wife was the center of his world, and the love and companionship they shared throughout their years together was truly special.

Thomas worked for many years in the printing industry as a Supervisor for Bowne Financial Printing in Secaucus, New Jersey. He was also an entrepreneur, having owned and operated Soul Journey, a bookstore in Pompton Lakes, where his creativity and love of books could be shared with others.

A talented and artistic man, Thomas found great joy in drawing and painting and had a natural appreciation for creativity. He was also an exceptional cook who took great pride in preparing delicious meals for his loved ones. He especially enjoyed gardening and growing his own vegetables, including cantaloupes, peppers, and tomatoes. There was great satisfaction in tending to his garden and enjoying the fruits of his own labor.

Thomas was also a devoted dog lover, and his beloved Yorkies, Dijo and Bella 😊, held a very special place in his heart. They brought him endless companionship, happiness, and unconditional love.
