You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. A psychoeducational evaluation can be an important step toward understanding your child’s strengths, challenges, and learning needs.

Have you ever walked away from an IEP meeting feeling unheard, overwhelmed, or uncertain whether your child’s needs are being fully understood?

You know your child best, and your concerns deserve to be heard. My newest blog explores when it may be time to seek a second opinion through an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) and how you can continue advocating for your child.

Did you know you can request an independent evaluation of your child? 👀

It’s called an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE). This is an evaluation conducted by a qualified professional who is independent from your child’s school district. It is funded by the school district (at public expense).

An IEE may be something to consider if:
✨ You have concerns about your child’s school evaluation
✨ You feel their strengths or challenges weren’t fully captured
✨ You have concerns about areas that weren’t evaluated
✨ Your child continues to struggle and you want a better understanding of why
✨ You want a second opinion

An IEE isn’t about blaming the school. It can provide a fresh, independent perspective and help you better understand your child’s unique learning profile and needs.

If you have questions about IEEs. Contact me for a free consultation. I’m happy to help you understand the process.

“If you disagreed with your child’s school evaluation, you have options. One of them is an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) and it’s something we provide.

An IEE isn’t about starting over. It’s about making sure your child’s full picture is understood before decisions are made.

We support families in Walnut Creek and throughout the SF Bay Area. Contact us if you would like to talk through whether this is the right step for your family.

ADHD in girls can look different than we expect.
It may show up as daydreaming, perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, difficulty staying organized, or working hard to appear like everything is under control.

When ADHD is misunderstood or overlooked, girls can spend years wondering why things feel harder than they seem for everyone else.

Check out my new blog post to gain a better understanding of the presentation of ADHD in girls and why recognizing these signs matters.

One of the most powerful things we can do for a child is identify their needs early. When we wait, kids often internalize their struggles.

Early identification changes the narrative from:
“What’s wrong with me?” to “Here’s how my brain works and here’s how adults can help.”

When we understand a child’s needs early, we protect their confidence, their mental health, and their path forward.

We often ask “Why won’t they just listen?” but the real question is “What’s getting in the way?”
Behavior is communication. When a child is struggling, it’s often about missing skills. Emotional regulation, executive functioning, social understanding, these can all impact how a student shows up in the classroom or at home.

Instead of assuming defiance, let’s consider what support they might need to succeed.

When we build the skills, the desired behavior follows.

Did you know a child can be both incredibly gifted and have a learning difference? This is called being twice exceptional and it’s more common than many realize. At times, these kids fly under the radar. Their strengths hide their struggles.

A psychoeducational evaluation helps uncover the full picture, so your child can receive the right kind of support to truly thrive both in and out of the classroom.

If you’ve ever felt like your child is bright but still struggling in ways that don’t quite make sense, you’re not alone. We’re here to help. 💛
