Check out this beautiful quilt made by Kalina! Kalina made this quilt out of shirts from OPOs, Donate Life teams, and other nonprofits from around the country - including New England Donor Services! Kalina made the quilt in honor of the five-year anniversary of her dad’s passing, who was able to give the gift of life through donation after his passing.

Thank you, Kalina, for sharing! Donate Life America

Jonathan Sapienza has been with New England Donor Services for 6 years and has been a Tissue Resource Lead for 3 years! Jonathan heard about NEDS through his former EMS colleagues. He had never heard of an organ procurement organization (OPO) before and was impressed by what he learned while researching NEDS.

Jonathan is very appreciative of the culture at NEDS and that every day is a learning opportunity. “It’s almost like putting unique pieces of a puzzle together in my role. Working with my coworkers makes the workday enjoyable, and I appreciate everyone’s hard work.”

Jonathan’s manager is proud of his amazing performance, and they thank him for being a great team leader!

Thank you, Jonathan, for all that you do at NEDS!

Jack Ferreri participates in the NEDS Annual Golf Outing in honor of his donor.

“I am so happy to be alive and able to play in this year's NEDS Golf Outing. Getting a chance to give back while meeting other participants, many of whom will be donor family members or other fortunate organ recipients, is a great opportunity and blessing.”

“I received my new heart in December of 2024 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. Congestive hepatopathy had caused significant fibrosis to my liver. I was admitted to the hospital in late October of '24 and received inotropic drugs to improve my cardiac output with my old heart, then was fortunate to get a new heart in time to save my liver and give me a new lease on life.”

“Since my transplant, I have been able to enjoy playing golf again, and have taken long walks with my wife and family, as well as enjoying a summer family vacation together. Less than 3 months after my transplant, I was in seventh Heaven holding my new grandson, Nicholas John Ferreri...whose middle name honors me.”

“In addition, I have participated in walks to raise money for Heart Brothers and the AHA. And have made some new friends, many of them heart transplant recipients who share a common bond. I try to be supportive of those who support me.”

“I pray for my donor and his family every day. Just recently, I received mail through the Aftercare Services Department at NEDS and found out my donor's family had been so happy to hear from me, and I got two Christmas cards back! I cried reading them. The donor's mom and sister each sent me a card expressing their joy for me. They informed me that my donor had also donated his liver and kidneys as well. Hopefully, one day I will meet my donor's family to thank them personally.”

“Organ donation has saved my life. Please consider becoming a donor if you have not already made that decision.”

Thank you, Jack, for participating in this year's golf outing!

Since NEDS volunteer Brad Biscornet was born, he was told by doctors that he was on borrowed time due to a cardiac condition. In 2007, his cardiac condition deteriorated significantly, and he needed a heart transplant.

After 6 months in the hospital, Brad received the Gift of Life with a new heart thanks to the selflessness of a donor family. Post transplant, Brad has completed multiple Spartan Obstacle Races and became Captain on the Tyngsborough Fire Department. Now Brad and his wife, Mandra, have written a book called “Just Another Love Story” that details their journey pre- and post-transplant.

Thanks, Brad and Mandra, for sharing your story!
