“What’s one piece of reassurance you often give worried patients?”

Dr. Peter Chang’s answer is one we hope brings comfort to anyone navigating uveitis: most forms of uveitis are treatable, and with proper care and monitoring, blindness is unlikely.

Living with uveitis can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to face it alone. Join us tomorrow for our virtual support group with Dr. Chang, where patients and caregivers can connect, ask questions, and learn from an experienced uveitis specialist about common complications that can arise alongside ocular inflammatory disease.

We're proud to see OIUF represented at the 804th NEOS Meeting in Boston this past Friday! ✨

Two of our fellows, Dr. Andrew Briere, DO and Dr. Konstantinos Douglas, MD, presented research posters, while two OIUF Board Members, Dr. Stephen Anesi, MD, FACS and Dr. Peter Chang, MD, FACS, shared their expertise through educational presentations. Opportunities like these help foster collaboration, advance knowledge in ocular inflammatory disease, and support the development of future leaders in the field!

Did you know that ocular inflammatory disease and its treatments can sometimes lead to additional eye conditions?

Join us on June 9th for our next Virtual Support Group, "Ask an Ocular Immunologist: Secondary Complications of Ocular Inflammatory Disease", featuring Dr. Peter Chang, MD, FACS.

From glaucoma and cataracts to dry eye, medication side effects, and other long-term challenges, living with OID often means navigating more than a diagnosis alone. Bring your questions and hear directly from an ocular immunologist about the complications patients may experience and how they can be managed and prevented.

Whether you're living with uveitis, supporting a loved one, or simply looking to learn more, we invite you to join the conversation.

What an incredible evening of learning, collaboration, and discussion. ✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our inaugural Physician Roundtable last week. Bringing together healthcare providers who share a passion for improving care for patients with ocular inflammatory disease is at the heart of what these events are all about!

We're grateful to our attendees, speakers, Drs. Gonzalez and Wilkins, and our session supporter, Keenova, for making this event possible and for contributing to such thoughtful conversations throughout the evening.

Today is International Clinical Trials Day 💙

Clinical trials play a critical role in advancing care for rare diseases like ocular inflammatory disease and uveitis. From improving treatment options to helping researchers better understand these conditions, research participation helps move the field forward for future patients everywhere.

In this clip from one of our recent virtual support groups, our clinical research coordinator, Will, discusses the importance of clinical trials and how patients can get involved in trials for new uveitis treatments .

✨Meet Samantha!✨

"When I was diagnosed with uveitis at the age of six, I and my parents were told that it was more or less a forgone conclusion that I’d eventually end up developing juvenile idiopathic arthritis as well; it was framed to us as a matter of when, not if. I was immediately put in the care of a rheumatologist in my hometown of New York City and consistently kept an eye on every few months, always being asked if my joints felt sore or stiff and waiting anxiously for the ticking time bomb we were told to expect to finally be set off.

Finally, when I was 12, the chips fell. I was a competitive ballroom dancer at the time and went to practice one afternoon to discover during warmup drills that I could no longer sit all the way back on my heels. It was like my knees just wouldn’t bend that way anymore, a change that had seemingly happened overnight. What followed was a swift trip to the rheumatologist and a change in the approach taken to my treatment by introducing biologics to attempt to control the JIA and uveitis simultaneously.

At the age of 16, I traded my ballroom shoes for a yoga mat and am now a committed yoga and Pilates instructor, helping others with similar mobility issues to retain joint health and improve muscular control.

Thanks to the efforts of my specialists and the research of OIUF, I have managed to make it to the age of 32 having experienced fairly limited effects of JIA. I am in remission now from both uveitis and JIA thanks to being on a combination of Remicade and methotrexate. I am also now a mother with two young children, ages four and six, and am grateful that they have no idea whatsoever that there is or ever has been anything wrong with their mommy."

Help us raise awareness for World AutoInflammatory Arthritis Day by sharing Sam’s story! Ocular inflammation is a common complication of many auto-inflammatory arthritis diseases, yet it often goes unrecognized and under-discussed.

We’re still celebrating this incredible achievement from the 2026 ARVO Annual Meeting ✨

One of our youngest advocates, Celina Wang, attended ARVO this year to present a research poster on her work regarding cystoid macular edema (CME) associated with retinal vasculitis (RV), an inspiring accomplishment for a high school student and patient advocate living with uveitis!

Celina's involvement reflects the importance of empowering young patients to engage with research, advocacy, and the future of ocular inflammatory disease care. Congratulations on this well-deserved accomplishment!
