Maternal health in rural areas is sooooo important. As a postpartum doula, support for these moms has/is such a blessing. 🗒️ Maternal deaths happen in the postpartum period at higher rates than during pregnancy. Heart and mental health are the #1 culprits in Ga. So if you know someone that has had a baby in the last year, check on them. You maybe glad you did.

I am sometimes asked what do I do in a home with a mom in the postpartum period. For the most part, I’m trying to alleviate things in the home so mom can concentrate on healing. Over the last couple of weeks I have been working with a mom and we have been working on teaching baby how to self soothe and help mom be able to accomplish things in the home without feeling like she can’t do anything because she can’t put the baby down. Well today, I held mom’s hand as she practice putting the baby in the crib and just watch his response. We started with about 4-5 minutes in the crib. He did fine but we didn’t want him to get too upset so she picked him up and played with him. We chatted for a bit and I left.

By the time I got home, mom did it again. He had been in the bed for four minutes and that turned into eight minutes. He had so much fun discovering his feet and listening to himself talk. Sometimes I just hold mommy’s hand, gently encourage and watch her excel. I’m so proud of her and him.

So, what do I do when I’m in a home with a a postpartum mom? Whatever is needed!!😊. Literally, I was born to do this work!! Want to learn more? Feel free to contact me.

I’m a RN, Postpartum Doula and an IBCLC. When I enter a home u get all three. I can’t separate. Today was a lactation consult but turned into a nursing assessment and doula work. Mom is resting and I am enjoying snuggles with her little 1️⃣!!! That is all!!
