Success Story for Mrs. Darcy:
I would like to thank the staff and friends I've made along the way during my stay at Brookside Rehab and Nursing. My journey began on December 18th 2025. I was referred here after a month-long inpatient stay when it was determined I was unable to access any entry into my house due to mobility issues and the challenge of stairs. Upon arrival my voice was reduced to only a whisper, I was on a feeding tube while only allowed ice chips, I was confined to a bed being unable to walk due to a Fractured femur. I was completely uncertain of what was ahead.
I was met with a team consisting of my nurses, Physical Therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, which at the time never realizing how important they would become. I truly owe my life to them. I was asked many times what my goal was and it was to see my daughter graduate from Virginia Tech in person may 2026. At that point, therapy began.I went from having virtually no voice to full conversations as well as, upgrading from a feeding tube to eating full meals. I could not be more thankful for the experience and support given to me. If not for their professionalism and knowledge I'm not sure where I would be right now. The PT and OT here has been nothing short of top notch. They work as a team but occasionally, individually. Day in and day out, they challenged me to the best of my abilities which at the beginning was just stretching in bed, to now being able to walk about 180 ft.
They have provided me with the tools needed to navigate every day life situations and while encouraging me and supporting me through my victories. I could not have asked for a better team whom I will never forget for helping to give me my life back! When I met my nurse I didn't know how important she would become in every step of my journey. Her knowledge and expertise led to a trust and and understanding.I never had to question a concern because she was always on it. She could provide oversight and show me where and how to find information for myself. In so many ways we are alike and I think that only helped me in our relationship. As I look back through the past 9 months she has always been there to support me, when I felt defeat, she was here to cheer and celebrate my achievements no matter how big or small. She told me that I'm an inspiration to her but honestly, she is one of my biggest inspirations. I feel very blessed to have her in my life she's an amazing nurse who has a wonderful bedside manner, which is important to people like me. Trust me when I say anyone who is assigned to her is very very lucky.
One thing I would like to say about my team is that they will be saving a lot of lives in their own way. If not for them I would not be walking talking or eating. They literally gave me my life back. I'm grateful that Brookside has such a phenomenal team that helped me get to my ultimate goal which is to go home. Today is the day that I feel confident and ready to take on the challenges independently. Thank you for your continued support and being what I needed to get here. I will never forget my time here I hope others can follow in my footsteps because it feels wonderful to know that I can finally do it myself. Thank you team Brookside! ❤️
