Staff Spotlight: Since starting at Blue Ridge about a year ago, Ashleigh Cochran has been making a positive impact on those around her through her kindness, thoughtfulness, and creative spirit. Pretty much everyone here at Blue Ridge is familiar with Ashleigh’s uber-adorable 3D prints and now we know even more about her after she agreed to participate in our Staff Spotlight Q&A.
Q. Tell us about your 3D prints. How did you get into it?
A. This is a funny story actually. My bf and I are very creative minds, but in different ways. Since he is retired military, he figures out the designs and mechanics behind the prints. Then I usually select the color palette, and manage our sales techniques/platforms. We originally started with one printer and made all these ridiculous things around the house just for fun. Then we received requests from friends and family. As a joke, someone told us, “You all should sell these,” and we decided to just do it. Our business Koalafied Chaos began back in April of this year and it has been interesting learning the dos and don'ts of running it. We enjoy just making people smile and get excited about our designs. To some they look small and insignificant but to others, they can make someone's day and brighten a dark mood. Now we are up to four printers and constantly creating new things to share with others.
Q. How long have you been working at Blue Ridge Orthopaedic?
A. It will be one year in September
Q. What is your job title?
A. Patient Specialist (Appointments)
Q. What does your job entail?
A. Answer phones to schedule appointments for patients, make changes to accounts, and keep the care flow between patient to nurse to physician as smooth as possible, while trying to make every interaction a positive one.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Speaking with different personalities every day. I have the best day when I answer a call with a patient that sounds like they are not having the best day, but by the end of the call they are laughing with me and are just a little bit better than before.
Q. What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
A. If you do not know something, JUST ASK. Questions at BRO are constantly asked, even the same ones repeatedly, and everyone will continue to answer them until they stick. **I laugh when I say this out loud because I want to say we all have a little ADHD in us here at BRO**
Q. What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
A. That is a tough question. I would love to make Koalafied Chaos a full time thing. Travel to different shows and events showing off our products and just creating smiles everywhere.
Q. What profession would you definitely NOT like to do?
A. Surgeon. NOPE. I cannot handle blood or gory things, so kudos to all the MDs at BRO who do that all the time. You all can find me passed out on the floor...
Q. What county do you live in?
A. Fauquier
Q. What do you like best about your county?
A. Fauquier is a "farm filled city" feeling. You can drive 10 mins and have shopping for all the necessities but then BAM.. moo moos on both sides of the road. Love it.
Q. What is your favorite local business?
A. I have only lived in the area for 2 years so I am still learning the shops, but I know I love Denim & Pearls restaurant. That is a go to for the family.
Q. What do you like to do when you aren’t at Blue Ridge?
A. Crafts. Any crafts, all the things. I usually set myself up with headphones and Audible listening to a crime thriller novel (not true crime), while keeping my hands busy making jewelry, custom paintings, or putting together a 3D print order.
Q. What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
A. I absolutely love old classic Noir movies and tv shows. Yes most of them would not be ok for today’s societal norms but I just enjoy the tricks they had to do back then to make things appear a certain way for the audience. Top faves are Charlie Chan detective played by Boris Karloff and all of the original Sherlock Holmes filmed in 1940s.
Q. Where’s your favorite place in the world?
A. Ironically a place I have never been but it is on my bucket list, Egypt. I have a crazy obsession with all things Old Kingdom history, folklore, and myths.
Q. What is your motto or personal mantra?
A. Don’t assume, ask. I always try to think from the other person’s perspective before assuming the worst or that I know what they are thinking. If I don’t know, I always ask for clarification since misunderstandings happen all the time and the easiest way I have found to avoid them is to just ask.
Q. If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
A. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle because I want to know how he came up with Sherlock Holmes and the thought processes behind deductive reasoning. I understand it because it is written so well in his stories but I want to know how he came up with the logic.
Q. Three words to best describe you:
A. Compassionate, loyal, and honest
Q. What is the one thing you can’t live without?
A. Caffeine is a requirement in my daily routine.
Q. What is the most recent TV show you binge-watched?
A. Marvel’s Moon Knight and very disappointed with the ending AND no second season coming out.
Q. What is the best movie of all time?
A. Constantine with Keanu Reeves
Q. If you could have any superpower what would it be?
A. Healing so I can heal others that are in pain.
Q. What is one food that you cannot resist?
A. Chips and dip. Either chips and French onion dip or tortilla chips with queso.
Q. If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
A. Egyptologist and just know ALL the things of Egyptian history and lore.
Q. What’s the best advice you were ever given?
A. Just be yourself because not every one is going to like you, as long as you like yourself.
Q. Are you a dog person or a cat person (or neither)?
A. All the animals. I currently have cats but grew up with dogs, reptiles, and arachnids.
