"Common Sage originated in the Mediterranean basin, like most of our culinary herbs, but is hardy enough to grow almost all over the world, both wild and as a garden plant. It has been valued for its medicinal properties since ancient times, and indeed its Latin name derives from the same root as 'salvation', since Sage was considered able to save people from illness and death. It was also called 'โ„Ž๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘๐‘Ž ๐‘ ๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž' - sacred herb - by the Romans. However, in spite of the undoubted value of Sage in he form of the fresh or dried plant, when we come to consider the essential oil, a great deal of caution is needed. Sage should only be used with caution at all times, and not at all during pregnancy, for young children, or anybody suffering from epilepsy. For those reasons, aromatherapists use the oil of Clary Sage (๐‘†๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘ฃ๐‘–๐‘Ž ๐‘ ๐‘๐‘™๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘Ž) in preference to the common Sage, as it shares many of the therapeutic properties of Sage oil, but contains only a very small proportion of thujone." "The primary interest in rosewood is because of the linalool which is an important aromatic substance used in the perfume industry. While the ๐ด.๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘ ๐‘Ž๐‘’๐‘‘๐‘œ๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž species is not itself threatened, as a result of heavy exploitation of the trees, very few trees exceeding 30 cm girth can be found within the 20 km of river banks of navigable rivers. This is the only means of bulk transportation in the Amazon region. Substantial stands of ๐ด.๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘ ๐‘Ž๐‘’๐‘‘๐‘œ๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž still remain because they are in inaccessible parts of the Amazon. A recent project has been investigating the possibility of using the leaf to produces a rosewood leaf oil. The results look promising.
