Follow if you're done with mental gymnastics 🤸‍♂️

Recovery teaches you to stop people-pleasing and start leading a life that feels genuine and authentic and allows room for growth.

If you are investing time, energy and money to do this work—to communicate more effectively, to learn relational repair skills, and how to manage conflict—then naturally you're going to want to be surrounded by people who can do it too.

If love is what's being served in a relationship, then repair is what we do in order to demonstrate our love when there's a rupture and not ignoring the problems or eachother.

It's okay if you no longer want to accept breadcrumbs for love and if communication and relational repair work are important to you. You don't have to make a big announcement about anything; just adjust yourself, how you show up and see what happens.

Follow if you've experienced medical phobia.

The dentist used to give me a full-blown panic attack. This phobia came on after a root canal gone bad. It took nearly a decade and a dentist with the patience of a saint to get me through it, and you can overcome phobias too.

It is completely understandable to feel anxious about medical procedures. For many, the clinical environment—the sterile smells, the specialized equipment, and the feeling of losing control—can trigger a deep-seated stress response.

It is not uncommon for this anxiety to grow into a phobia, where the mere thought of a procedure, like getting an injection or visiting a clinic, causes physical symptoms like a rapid heart rate, dizziness, or intense dread.

Please know that your feelings are valid; your brain is simply trying to protect you from a perceived threat, even if that threat is a necessary step toward your health.

Follow if s*x & intimacy are not always the same.

Intimacy is a complex language, and it’s no secret that we often learn its "dialect" differently based on our experiences, biology, and conditioning.

For many women, the physical act needs an emotional connection. It’s not just about the moment itself; it’s about the safety, the reliability, and the emotional "container" built beforehand. For them, true satisfaction often hinges on feeling emotionally connected—knowing they are safe, valued, and understood outside the bedroom before they can fully let go inside it.

Conversely, for many men, the physical connection often *is* the language of emotional intimacy. For them, s*x can be the primary way they say, "I love you," "I trust you," or "I am vulnerable with you." While emotional closeness matters deeply, the physical act itself often serves as the bridge that creates that closeness, rather than being the reward that comes after it.

It's important to realize that these aren't opposing needs—they are just different starting points on the same path. Understanding that your partner might be using a different "dialect" to express love helps turn frustration into curiosity. Instead of asking why the other person sees it differently, the most compassionate question you can ask is: *"What does intimacy look like for you, and how can we build a bridge between our two worlds?"*

Follow if you struggle with oversharing.

Oversharing often gets a bad rap, but beneath that impulse usually lies a vulnerable human need: the desire to be seen and known.

When you share too much, too soon, it’s rarely about lacking boundaries—it’s often a desperate, subconscious bid for connection. It’s you saying, "I am here, and I want you to know the real me."

Please, stop punishing yourself with shame for these moments. Instead, view them as an indication that you need a safer place to explore, like therapy.

You deserve spaces and people who can hold the weight of your story without you having to rush the process. Seek out communities and relationships where vulnerability is earned, not demanded. Look for the slow burns, the friends who ask follow-up questions, and the spaces where authenticity is met with genuine curiosity rather than discomfort.

You are worthy of connection that feels safe, sustainable, and mutual. Keep reaching out, but start looking for the hands that are ready to hold yours back.

Follow if you're estranged from your family too.

Unfortunately, not everyone gets a safe and supportive family system where they can grow and flourish into healthy humans. Instead, they're given a steady diet of contempt, criticism, and random acts of violence. Exposure to constant emotional, psychological, and physical abuse leaves you trembling on the inside and feeling lost. The conditioning then contributes to similar conditions later in life: toxic relationships, struggles with addiction, and feeling like life is impossible. Removing yourself from the environment and focusing on your healing and recovery will be hard, but it will save your life. That wasn't your fault, and you didn't deserve it, get the help you need.

Can you stay connected to yourself while you experience discomfort?

We often leave ourselves when things become uncomfortable. We leave ourselves when someone is disappointed in us, we leave ourselves when we feel rejected, when we feel afraid, when we make a mistake.

The real practice is learning to stay through the discomfort and not abandoning yourself in the moment simply because it's difficult.

Practice saying, "I'm still here, I'm with you."

May you be held in the awareness that sees you clearly and loves you anyway.

May you meet your thoughts with patience, your emotions with kindness, and your body with gratitude.

May you release the need to become someone else in order to become worthy of love, and may you return, again and again, to the quiet truth within you because you're already home.

See you on the mat

Mental health and substance use are often deeply intertwined, forming what is frequently called a "dual diagnosis." Think of them as two waves in the same ocean: sometimes one drives the other, and often they amplify each other. Many people turn to substances as a way to self-medicate—to quiet the noise of anxiety, numb the heaviness of depression, or escape the chaos of trauma. It’s an understandable, human attempt to find relief, even if the long-term effects create more turbulence. Remember that asking for help is not anything to be ashamed of. You deserve to be mentally stable and clean.
