As our resident expert, Dr. McGhee has helped countless people understand what's really going on beneath the surface — because so often, addiction or other challenges aren't the whole story. It's the symptom. Underneath it, we frequently find unspoken grief, generational trauma, untreated anxiety and depression, and a deep cultural pressure to "hold it together" instead of getting help.
In this open session, Dr. McGhee joins us to talk candidly about the connection between mental health and recovery, and why healing in the Black community so often has to happen on its own terms — terms that honor faith, family, and the real barriers to care that so many of us face. We'll talk about what culturally-responsive support actually looks like, how stigma keeps people silent long after they're ready to ask for help, and what it means to recover not just from substance use, but from everything that led there in the first place.
Bring your questions, your stories, and whatever's on your heart. Whether you're in recovery yourself, love someone who is, or simply want to understand this conversation more deeply, this is a space to learn, be seen, and leave with real hope.
