Sometimes “I need help” feels impossible to say

Not because you don’t need it, but because you’re already using all your energy just trying to survive the moment.

When you’re overwhelmed, you may not have the words to explain what’s happening. You may withdraw, go quiet, or simply say, “I’m fine.”

But you don’t have to explain everything perfectly to deserve support. You’re allowed to ask for help even when you don’t know exactly what you need.

And if you’re struggling silently, let this be your reminder: you don’t have to keep drowning alone.

If you’re healing from narcissistic abuse and want support from others who understand, comment “Support” to join our support group.

I realized I did this too. My apartment was always well curated, but it barely spoke about me, except for my bedroom. Only later did I understand there was a psychological reason behind it. This is far more common than people realize, and it has nothing to do with laziness, taste, or not caring

👉 Abuse disconnects you from claiming space.
In narcissistic dynamics, expressing preferences often led to criticism, conflict, or withdrawal of love. Over time, your nervous system learns that taking up space isn’t safe. Decorating becomes emotionally risky because it says: “This is me.”

👉 Staying undecorated feels safer than attaching.
Many survivors live with subconscious impermanence “If I don’t attach, I won’t lose.”
Not decorating keeps you emotionally mobile, protected from disappointment, loss, or having something you love invalidated again.

👉 Self-doubt replaces instinct.
Mocked choices and constant correction erode trust in your own taste. You’re not disinterested, you’re unsure. Decision paralysis replaces desire.

👉 A home reflects identity, and abuse fractures identity.
Decorating requires knowing who you are and believing you’re allowed to exist fully. After abuse, survivors focus on functioning and surviving first, not expressing or nesting.

When the desire to decorate finally appears, it’s often a healing milestone.
It signals safety, self-ownership, and the belief that you’re allowed to stay.

You weren’t behind.
You were protecting yourself.
And the part of you that now wants beauty, comfort, and permanence.
That’s healing.
