October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and the Wave of Light is its most visible moment. Every year on October 15, families around the world light a candle at 7 PM in honor of the babies who were lost too soon. The light travels west across time zones, creating a wave that circles the globe.

I'll be lighting a candle tonight in solidarity with all the families I've been honored to support and the friends and family whom I hold dear. Please join me if you can.

I'd recommend everyone check out the recent article in the New York Times about intrusive thoughts in the postpartum period. Something about it really got under my skin that I wanted to speak on. I'm curious, other folks in the perinatal mental health space, were you also trained to distinguish psychotic thoughts from intrusive thoughts based on whether they were egosytonic or ego-dystonic? I'm so curious where this distinction came from because it's never been accurate and it's never been sufficient and yet there is a conversation happening about how we are just now learning this. This is not new information and it really worries me how many people who specialize in perinatal mental health and maybe even sat for their PMH-C exam were taught this taught this.

Here's the thing, a shorthand is great except and always run short. We always need to be asking more questions.
