Check out this week’s Reaching the Lost Success Stories!

Reach, Seek, and Teach
Written by Eric Sykes
This week at the La Plata church of Christ, the saints wrote 120 compassion cards. We had eight visitors. We would like to give a very special thanks to all the folks who organized and supported our "Vacation Bible School: Knight of the King—Put on the Whole Armor of God." It was a great success with 32 children in attendance. The young folks had a wonderful time, with food, fun, and fellowship while learning about the teamwork and training associated with being a faithful soldier in the Lord's Army. We are especially thankful for Brother and Sister McNutt.
We also held our “National Night Out—Hotdogs and a Movie” as a community outreach. It was very inspiring to see all the members who came out in support this work. Several police officers and a couple of Aldermen visited, and the turnout was a great success. We took several kids from our congregation over to the fire and rescue station, which is right across the parking lot from us. We also invited the members to join us for hot dogs, popcorn, and a movie. Mr. Hayden came over to join us and stayed until the end. He even helped with the tear down and clean up. He also said that he truly enjoyed himself and that he is definitely planning to visit us again soon. We have his contact information, and he is now a prospect. He is also on our Compassion Card list. In fact, the team sent him ten cards this week. We delivered two new mover baskets this week and visited a couple of our sick and shut-ins this past week as well. While we were dropping off a bucket of KFC to one of our seniors, a neighbor asked jokingly if we would bring him some chicken, too. I told him, “Sure, but I can do you one better: how about you come by and visit us for worship at the La Plata church of Christ? Then my wife and I will take you and your family out to lunch after worship.” He said, “I’m coming." Later, we learned that he just moved into the neighborhood a few weeks ago. I told him that we have a group of folks at the building who love writing cards to newcomers to welcome them to the community. I asked him if it would be okay if they put him on the list. He said, “yes.” His name is Mr. Cooper, and he is now a contact on our Compassion Card list. Sandy and I will deliver a new mover basket to him tomorrow.
Last week, we were working with a young lady named Ms. Sylvia, hoping to baptize her. She is now very sick in the hospital. We appreciate prayers for her recovery soon. Currently, we have five open Bible studies. We appreciate all prayers and continued support as we strive to reach out to as many members of our community with the love and kindness of the Lord.
