🍼Bringing a child into the world is an exciting decision that deserves thoughtful preparation. While much of pregnancy care focuses on what happens after conception, some of the most important health decisions are made before you ever see a positive test. That’s where preconception counseling comes in.

🩺Preconception counseling is about more than just checking boxes. It’s a proactive, supportive approach to ensure that your body and life are in the best possible place to welcome a new baby.

If you have ever been told that 35 is some kind of hard deadline for having a baby, here is the context that matters.

Fertility does decline gradually, beginning around age 30, with a more noticeable change after 35. That decline is linked to both the number and genetic quality of eggs over time.

But "gradual decline" is not the same as "impossible," and your individual health matters far more than a number on a chart. Many women in their late 30s and early 40s conceive naturally and carry healthy pregnancies.

If you have been trying to conceive for six months or more without success and are over 35, that is a good time to schedule an evaluation with your provider.

Testing like anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and ovarian ultrasound can give you a clearer picture of your own fertility. Schedule your appointment today at Bloom OB/GYN.

Nobody talks enough about what happens to your body after the baby arrives.

The fourth trimester is real, and it comes with physical and emotional changes that can feel overwhelming when you are also running on no sleep.

Sadness that lingers past the first two weeks is not a personal failing. It may be postpartum depression, which affects about 1 in 8 women.

Leaking, night sweats, pain, and constant anxiety are all signals that your body is recovering and may need extra support. You are not supposed to just "push through" this.

If something feels off, trust yourself and tell your provider. Early support makes a real difference. Schedule your appointment today at Bloom OB/GYN.

Share this with a new mom who might need to hear it, and check out the Bloom OB/GYN blog for more postpartum recovery resources!

Planning for pregnancy? A preconception counseling visit is one of the most proactive steps you can take.

This is a dedicated appointment with your provider to assess your physical, emotional, and reproductive health before you start trying to conceive.

Research shows that women who receive preconception care are more likely to experience healthier pregnancies and reduce the risk of complications like gestational diabetes or preeclampsia.

During your visit, your provider will review your medical and family history, evaluate any chronic conditions, discuss your medications and supplements, and offer genetic carrier screening if appropriate.

You will also get individualized guidance on nutrition, vaccines, and lifestyle adjustments that can improve outcomes for you and your future baby. Schedule your appointment today at Bloom OB/GYN.

Send this checklist to someone who is thinking about starting a family, and visit the Bloom OB/GYN blog for even more preconception planning advice!

Your va**nal pH is a small number that makes a big difference. ⚖️
Healthy range: 3.8–4.5 (slightly acidic)

Why it matters:
➡️ Good bacteria thrive in this range
➡️ Keeps harmful microbes in check
➡️ Helps prevent odor and irritation

What can throw it off:
➡️ Periods, s*x, antibiotics, and hormonal changes
➡️ Scented products or douching
➡️ Tight clothing and poor airflow

Small habits like hydration, gentle care, and breathable fabrics help keep things balanced.
