✨ Breastfeeding Facts for Breastfeeding Month ✨

✨ Breast milk is uniquely designed to meet a baby’s nutritional needs and changes as a baby grows.
✨Colostrum, the first milk, is rich in nutrients and antibodies that help support a newborn’s immune system.
✨Breastfeeding provides more than nutrition — it also supports bonding, comfort, and connection between parent and baby.
✨Babies may breastfeed frequently, especially during growth spurts. This is a normal part of building and maintaining milk supply.
✨Breastfeeding looks different for every family. Any amount of breast milk can be meaningful, and every feeding journey deserves support and respect.
✨ Knowledge, encouragement, and support can make a big difference for breastfeeding families.

Sometimes doula support isn’t as obvious.

Sometimes it looks like celebrating the tiny victories you’re not sure anyone else would understand.

Hitting a pumping goal. Finally getting a little more sleep. Taking a shower. Eating a warm meal. Feeling confident enough to leave the house. Making it through a hard day.
Sometimes it looks like someone saying, “That matters,” when you’re wondering if it’s even worth celebrating.

Because postpartum isn’t measured only by the big milestones. It’s built from hundreds of small wins—and every one of them deserves to be seen, acknowledged, and celebrated.

Black Infertility Awareness Week is a time to shine a light on the unique challenges Black individuals and families face on the path to parenthood. Infertility does not discriminate, but access to care, diagnosis, treatment, and support are not always equal.

This week, we honor every journey, amplify every voice, and advocate for greater awareness, equity, and compassionate care. Whether you’re trying to conceive, navigating fertility treatments, grieving a loss, considering alternative paths to parenthood, or supporting someone who is—your story matters.

Together, we can break the stigma, build community, and create space for hope and healing.

Every family deserves to feel seen, supported, and celebrated. 🌈🤍

Building a family doesn’t follow one path, and no one should have to navigate that journey alone.

Whether you’re exploring fertility treatments, donor conception, surrogacy, adoption, pregnancy, birth, or postpartum, having affirming providers and a strong community can make all the difference.

That’s why we’ve rounded up some of our favorite local Washington, DC and national resources for LGBTQ+ families—from fertility clinics and healthcare providers to parenting groups and mental health support.

We hope this guide helps you find the people, organizations, and community that make your family’s story uniquely yours.

At Doulas of Capitol Hill, we believe every family deserves compassionate, evidence-based care. Wherever your journey begins, we’d be honored to help tell your story.
