Some days you really want to lay in bed. But friends will make you get out and enjoy a pool day with the baby. 🌞

Rest is part of the prescription too. Even for the doctor who writes them. 🤍

Thank you Marquia Davis Scarlett 😘

Happy Sunday.

🎉🎉I have been trying to figure out how to do this for years.

Here is the tension I have been sitting with: individualized physician-led care for weight loss, nutrition, and gut health takes real time and real resources to deliver well. And the patients who need it most are often the ones who cannot afford a monthly concierge membership.

Insurance does not cover what I actually do. And I was not willing to water down the care to make it fit a broken system.

So I built something different.

The Gut Theory Group Reset is a structured group program — physician-led, evidence-based, built for patients who need consistent education and accountability for:

→ Weight loss that is not just about calories
→ Nutrition that is actually individualized to your gut and your labs
→ GI symptoms that have never been properly explained
→ GLP-1 medications and how to make them work better
→ Understanding your body in a way no 15-minute appointment ever allowed

I put cameras inside of people, take things out, and mail their insides to strangers.

The strangers analyze the contents and report back to me. We call this medicine. The FDA is aware.

And the camera is called a colonoscopy. I’m a gastroenterologist. This is my job. Sounds sick but it prevents colon cancer!

I’m board certified in Internal medicine, Gastroenterology, Obesity medicine, and Nutrition. In case you were wondering who to trust your insides to!

Comment scope is your insides need some looking over!

Most patients see 4 to 6 specialist for problems that are actually connected.

When I think about hypertension, hyperlipidemia, fatty, liver, heartburn, bloating, difficulty with weight loss. All of those things are connected, and typically solved by diet.

At Gut Theory, it is not uncommon for me to wean a patient off of their blood pressure medication and send a note to their P*P. 🫣

I love making these changes and showing patients how to achieve their goals with nutrition tips and recipes.

I combine my Internal Medicine, GI, Nutrition, & Obesity Medicine training every single day!

One practice.
One doctor who sees the full picture.

Obesity is a chronic, complex, biologically-driven disease.

Not a character flaw.
Not a lifestyle choice.
A disease.
The medicine has changed.
The research has picked up.

The messaging hasn’t caught up.
That’s the problem I’m here to fix.

💬 Save this and share it with someone who needs to hear it.

Metabolic disease reversal isn’t a marketing claim — it’s an evidence-based outcome.

There is data before all of the GLP-1 excitement that showed this with at least 5-7% total body weight loss! This was the only treatment for fatty liver (MASLD).

But just as it did then, it still requires the right clinical support.
An actual plan
Guidance based on each patients’ needs
Education
And Frequent follow up

But, it’s actually possible when GI medicine, obesity medicine, and nutrition work together.

Not every day will be perfect. Show up anyway.

Some mornings the inbox is already full before the coffee is hot. Some weeks you show up for everyone else and forget to show up for yourself. That is not failure. That is the reality of building something that actually matters.

Consistency is not about doing it perfectly. It is about doing it repeatedly — even when it is imperfect, even when you are tired, even when the latte gets cold.

Give yourself the same grace you give others. And then keep going.

Happy Sunday. 🤍 Rest well if you need it. Or work if it lights you up. Either one counts.

Working on a Saturday hits differently when you remember why you started.

Washington DC didn’t have a practice that combined GI, obesity medicine, nutrition, and bariatric endoscopy under one roof.

Now it does. That’s Gut Theory. Just reminiscing on the picking the flooring, paint, bathroom tiles, cabinets… and now it’s real!

Don’t ever give up!

Have a beautiful weekend. 🤍

Every day in this practice does not go as planned.

You show up with a schedule, a plan, a vision for how the day will unfold — and then life happens. A patient needs more time. A decision has to be made that was not on the agenda. Something goes wrong with a system, a process, a piece of equipment. You are constantly being asked to step into situations you did not prepare for that morning.

And somehow — you do it anyway.

That is what practice ownership actually looks like. Not the highlight reel. The actual daily work of showing up in rooms you were not fully ready for and figuring it out in real time.

But here is what makes it worth it.

You get to watch someone understand their body for the first time. You get to give a patient an answer they have been waiting years for. You get to remove a polyp before it becomes cancer. You get to prescribe a medication that changes someone’s relationship with their own weight. You get to sit across from a person who has been dismissed, undertreated, and underestimated — and actually have time for them.

That is the work. And there is nothing like it.

Monday I also kicked off the very first live session of OWN IT. — the physician entrepreneurship course I built for GI and obesity medicine physicians who are ready to build independent practices on their own terms. I am just so proud of the physicians who enrolled. They chose to do the hard thing instead of waiting for the perfect moment that was never going to come.

If you missed this cohort — the next OWN IT. cohort opens in December 2026.And for those who learn better on your own schedule, a self-paced version of the course will be available as well.

💬 Drop a 🔥 if you are building something that feels hard right now — this is for you too.

Retatrutide is all the buzz right now! It’s the next evolution in obesity medicine 🔬

I was quoted in to help break down retatrutide — Eli Lilly’s, triple agonist that targets GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon simultaneously.

Phase 3 trial results - An average of ~70 lbs lost over 80 weeks, with nearly 28% body weight reduction.

Numbers comparable to bariatric surgery.

This isn’t just exciting news, it’s a reminder that obesity treatment is science, not willpower. The more hormonal pathways we target, the more effective and personalized care becomes.

We’re not fully there yet (FDA approval is pending), but the landscape is shifting fast. And as your GI + Obesity Medicine specialist, I’m staying ahead of it so you don’t have to.
