Self-compassion is the intentional effort to be compassionate to ourselves, despite our failures, flaws, shortcomings, and suffering. It is when we can extend the same kindness, grace, empathy, and care we would to a loved one that we care deeply about, to ourselves. One way we can practice this is by identifying a time, today or in the past week, where perhaps we were not very kind to ourselves. Take a moment to reflect on how we would show up in that moment if instead we were talking to a loved one, instead of talking to ourselves. This is an exercise we can do even in the moment when we catch ourselves not being kind to ourselves, but remember this takes practice!
