The latest national statistics on overdose deaths are encouraging.

Fewer people are dying than just a few years ago, and every one of those lives matters. We should celebrate that progress.

At the same time, national trends don't always reflect what's happening in every community. They certainly don't tell the story of every family.

At Nuvaya, we serve people and neighborhoods where addiction continues to take a devastating toll. Behind every statistic is someone who is still struggling, someone who is worried about a son or daughter, a parent, a spouse, or a friend, and someone wondering where to turn.

If that's your story, please don't assume the need has passed because the headlines have changed.

Recovery is possible, and help is available.

Whether you're looking for treatment, seeking guidance for someone you love, or simply trying to understand what to do next, we're here to help.

No one should have to face addiction alone.

Forty years ago, Samaritan Inns began serving men and women seeking recovery, stability, and a second chance.

Since then, thousands of lives have been touched by the dedication of staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and a community that believed people were worth investing in.

Over the past year, I've spent a great deal of time reflecting on that legacy. What strikes me most is not how much has changed, but how much has stayed the same.

The needs may look different. The challenges may be more complex. But the work remains about helping people find hope, healing, and a path forward.

As we approach an important milestone for our organization - rebranding to Nuvaya (a 'new way'), I am grateful to those who came before us, to those carrying the work today, and to the opportunity to help shape what comes next.

In a few weeks, we'll share more about the next chapter of this organization.

For now, I simply want to say thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey.

Forty years is a long time. It is also a reminder that good work is never finished. I hope you'll continue with us as we begin the next chapter.

There is something deeply hopeful about watching young people choose to serve others with joy, consistency, and compassion.

This week, we were grateful to welcome back an incredible group of young people from SASDAC (https://www.sasdac.org) to Nuvaya/Samaritan Inns (www.nuvaya.org www.samaritaninns.org) for the third time since November 2025. They came not simply to hand out delicious homemade meals, but to bring kindness, dignity, conversation, and presence to the people we serve every day.

What continues to stand out is not just the food itself, but the spirit behind it. These young leaders show up with humility, warmth, and genuine care for others. In a world that often feels rushed and divided, that kind of service matters more than they probably realize.

To the group: Your generosity is helping build the kind of community we all hope for: one grounded in compassion, connection, and quiet acts of grace.

We are deeply grateful for your partnership and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Nuvaya/Samaritan Inns. From the impossible, we believe in miracles.
