You notice pretty quickly when your orthodontist has done the homework before you even sit down.

That's what stands out to me about working alongside Dr. Su Lee. She's already reviewed a case before a patient walks in, which means less time spent figuring things out in the chair and more time moving treatment forward.

The result shows up in small ways. Visits run smoother. Treatment stays on track. Families leave with a clear sense of what's next.

She's also a board certified orthodontist, and what shows through most is the care she brings to every case.

A lot of parents expect myofunctional therapy to work like a workout plan. Do the reps, see the change. So when the first few weeks feel quiet, it can seem like nothing is working.

Here is what is actually happening underneath that quiet stretch. The exercises your child practices with us are only the part you can see. The real work builds in the habits around it, where the tongue rests, how they breathe, how they swallow, through the ordinary hours of the day.

A tongue that rests correctly most of the day matters more than one drill done flawlessly once. That is why we coach every family toward consistency first, and give that pattern a few weeks to settle in before judging whether it is working.

The brain is doing the retraining. The muscles are simply catching up to it.

If you want to talk through where your child is in that process, call our Washington DC office at 202-410-0088 or New Carrollton at 301-731-8510.

Dinner time in my house used to be a nightly battle.

I knew exactly how the next hour was going to go: refusals, bargaining, me trying to stay calm while saying "let's try it again" for the tenth time.

I'm a pediatric dentist. I talk to families about nutrition and development every single day. And I still went through it at my own table.

Sometimes I wanted to say, "Fine, have the lollipop and go to bed." So if picky eating feels like a nightly struggle in your house, I get it. I've sat at that table too.

If you've got a picky eater at home, you're not alone. We're always happy to talk it through with you.

A lot of parents assume Invisalign is something you wait on until the teenage years. It isn't always that simple.

We can start evaluating candidates for Invisalign treatment as young as age seven, well before every adult tooth has come in. At that age, the goal isn't a finished smile, it's catching a developing bite pattern while there's still room in the jaw to guide it. That's a very different job than correcting a bite after growth has already settled.

If your child has a crossbite, crowding, or teeth coming in unevenly, that's exactly the kind of thing worth bringing to an orthodontist early rather than later.

A consultation simply tells you where your child stands. There's no commitment attached to asking the question.

We evaluate patients at both our Washington DC and New Carrollton locations.

Choosing sedation for a child is never one size fits all.

We offer a few different options depending on what's needed.

Nitrous oxide, sometimes called laughing gas, helps a lot of kids relax right in the chair.

IV sedation, done in our office by a trained anesthesiologist, is used for more involved procedures.

General anesthesia, where a child is fully asleep, happens in a hospital setting for the most complex cases.

Which option makes sense depends on a few things: how long the treatment will take, your child's health, and how well they're likely to tolerate the visit itself.

These decisions are made carefully, specifically for your child, every time.

Do you have questions about sedation options for your child? Call us at 202-410-0088 (DC) or 301-731-8510 (New Carrollton), or visit mychildrenschoicedental.com.

Two siblings, same house, same parents, same dental visits.

One barely brushes and has never had a cavity. The other flosses every night and still ends up with cavities at every checkup.

That contradiction is exactly why we run salivary testing on our patients here in Washington, DC and New Carrollton.

Think of brushing as the seed. Saliva is the soil it grows in, and not every mouth has the same soil.

The test tells us how much bacteria is present and what type, because some strains are harmless while others break down enamel no matter how careful the brushing is.

Once we know which one we're working with, we build a prevention plan around your child's actual biology instead of a generic checklist.

If cavities keep showing up despite good habits at home, ask us about salivary testing at your child's next visit.

"They'll grow out of it."

If there's one thing I want every parent to know, it's this: when there's a challenge, "they'll grow out of it" isn't always true.

You might have heard this, or even said it yourself, about your kid's snoring, grinding at night, or picky eating. I'm sure I've said it myself as a parent too.

Kids do grow out of plenty of things. But sometimes these signals are signs that your child's body is asking for help, and waiting may mean missing the window where help is easy to give.

Thankfully, we have a lot of experts on your child's healthcare team for exactly this reason.

You don't have to figure out on your own whether something is normal or not. It never hurts to have a conversation, even if the answer ends up being, "This really is nothing."

Do you have a "they'll grow out of it" question of your own? There are no silly questions. We're here for you. Message us, or call us at 202-410-0088 (DC) or 301-731-8510 (New Carrollton). You can also visit mychildrenschoicedental.com.

Every few weeks, a parent tells us the same thing: their child suddenly won't eat anything but three foods.

That's not a red flag on its own. Many toddlers and young kids go through phases where food feels unpredictable, and it passes.

The hard part for parents is knowing which kind of picky eating this is.

So when a parent brings this up, we ask about three things: what your child eats, what textures they'll tolerate, and how much variety shows up on their plate.

A child who avoids crunchy foods because chewing feels like work is sending a different signal than a child who just prefers macaroni over vegetables.

That difference tells us whether this is a stage most kids grow out of, or a pattern worth a closer look.

You don't need to have it figured out before you come in. That's our job.

"Every kid snores sometimes, right?"

A mom asked me that during a recent visit, after mentioning her son snores every night. Snoring feels so common that it's easy to file under "just how kids sleep."

But common doesn't always mean fine. Snoring can be a signal that something else is going on, and that's reason enough to look closer.

Most of the time, that closer look puts your mind at ease. Sometimes it catches something worth addressing early, while it's still easy to address.

Wondering if your child's snoring is worth a conversation? Call 301-731-8510 (New Carrollton) or 202-410-0088 (Washington, DC). Learn more: www.mychildrenschoicedental.com

We asked our patients a simple question: who's your favorite dentist?

The answers turned into pure gold, complete with a little on-the-spot performance. Nothing tells us we're doing something right quite like a kid who feels comfortable enough to turn a checkup into a show.

That's the whole goal at Children's Choice. Make the visit fun enough that "favorite dentist" isn't a stretch, it's just true.
