The heartbreaking loss of NASCAR Legend Kyle Busch is a powerful reminder that infections can turn serious quickly. Pneumonia and sepsis do not only affect the elderly or medically fragile, they can happen to anyone especially if it’s an aggressive infection with delayed treatment and an already weak immune system.

Professional race car drivers are exposed to some unique medical and physiological health risks because of G forces, heat, vibration, speed, fumes resulting in respiratory irritation, dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities, and even cardiac strain because of adrenaline surges, increasing blood pressure and heart rate.

Know the warning signs: fever, chills, trouble breathing, confusion, extreme weakness, rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, or coughing up blood. Early treatment saves lives. If you have an infection that’s not getting better or that’s getting worse. Seek medical care right away. Sometimes IV antibiotics and fluids is necessary and if started early, can mean the difference between life and death.

The majority of pneumonia deaths are in those over the age of 65. But sadly sometimes it can impact even healthy athletes.
Protect yourself by staying up to date on pneumonia vaccines, washing hands often, getting enough rest, staying hydrated, and never ignoring worsening symptoms.
Sepsis is a medical emergency. Awareness can save lives.

Cruise ships can sometimes see outbreaks of illnesses like Norovirus, influenza, and covid due to close living quarters and shared spaces. Thankfully, hantavirus is extremely rare on cruise ships and does not spread easily like common respiratory viruses.

Stay healthy while traveling: wash hands often with soap and water, disinfect high-touch surfaces, stay hydrated, and avoid close contact with anyone who is sick. Prevention and good hygiene go a long way. 🛳️

Hantavirus Safety: A reminder for all of us- if you’re cleaning garages, sheds, cabins, attics or basements or any area with possible rodent droppings, do it safely. Don’t sweep or vacuum dry debris. Wet the area first, then carefully clean & disinfect it while wearing gloves and preferably a mask to avoid inhaling contaminated particles that could make you sick.

The Andes strain of hantavirus can spread from person to person, but usually during a brief early phase of illness (maybe days) and usually after close prolonged contact, not casual contact like passing by. It does not spread easily like measles, flu or covid.

Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who gave me everything.
When my father passed away when I was 13, my mom somehow found the strength to be both mom & dad to us 5 kids, while carrying the weight of heartbreak with grace, faith, and unconditional love. She sacrificed more than I will probably ever understand and because of her, I learned resilience, compassion, hard work, and how to keep going even when life felt impossible. Everything I am today began with her strength and inspiration. To all the moms out there carrying double the load holding families together we honor you. Love you, Mom ❤️
