South Asian heart risk is different — and prevention should be too.
If you have roots in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, or the Maldives, knowing your numbers early can make all the difference.

Cholesterol. Blood sugar. Blood pressure. Lp(a). Family history.
Start before symptoms.

High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” for a reason.

A recent research paper shows that many adults still misunderstand hypertension — from believing stress is the main cause, to thinking medication can be skipped on days they feel healthy.

But feeling fine does not always mean your blood pressure is under control. Uncontrolled hypertension can quietly increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and even dementia.

The real prevention starts with awareness, consistency, and understanding your numbers.

Know your blood pressure. Take it seriously. Protect your future health.

Had such an engaging conversation with Dr. Bailey about what heart disease prevention really looks like in everyday life. From avoiding overly processed foods and limiting unhealthy fats to embracing a plant-forward diet and staying physically active, this was a powerful reminder that prevention often starts with simple, consistent choices. Real food, more movement, better health.

AI in cardiology — hype, help, or the future?

This video is a bit of an experiment.
The ideas and text are mine, but the voiceover and visuals were created using AI.

And honestly, it’s impressive, but not perfect.
The visuals are solid. The voice still needs work.

Which, in many ways, reflects where we are with AI in medicine.

AI can analyze ECGs, assist in imaging, flag risk, and help detect disease earlier than we might otherwise.

What it cannot do is replace clinical judgment.
It cannot understand context the way a physician does.
And it cannot replace the human connection behind patient care.

That’s where the real future lies.

Not AI versus physicians,
but AI as a tool to help us practice earlier, smarter, and more personalized cardiology, especially in prevention.

Used well, it sharpens decision-making.
Used poorly, it can create noise.

The technology is already here.
The responsibility is ours.

Where do you stand — overhyped, underutilized, or exactly where it should be?

A powerful reminder from ACC 26 with Dr. Martha Gulati: prevention is not extra — it is essential. From cardiovascular risk to the role of exercise, primary prevention remains at the center of better heart health.

At ACC, I had the honor of interviewing some of the most respected voices in cardiology — Martha Gulati, Nanette Wenger, Roger Blumenthal, Keith Ferdinand, Alison Bailey, and Eugenia Gianos — and asking them one question:

What do you wish more people knew about preventing heart disease?

What struck me most:

Different leaders. Same message.

Know your numbers.

Blood pressure.

Lipids.

Blood sugar.

Nutrition.

Movement.

Sleep.

Smoking.

Family history.

Early detection.

Not complicated.

Not glamorous.

Just the fundamentals that change outcomes.

And they matter because heart disease is still the #1 cause of death — and so much of it is preventable.

That is why I speak so much about prevention.

Because heart disease usually does not begin with the heart attack.

It builds quietly — through missed risk factors, missed warning signs, and missed chances to act earlier.

It is a true honor to learn from leaders who have helped shape modern cardiology, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to continue learning from them. Conversations like these only strengthen my mission to make prevention more visible, more actionable, and impossible to ignore.

Prevention should not be the side conversation. It should be the main conversation.

Young. No blockages. Advanced heart failure.
A reminder that heart disease does not always look the way you think.

GLP-1 is changing more than weight loss, it’s changing the prevention conversation.
Your heart health starts long before the emergency.
