Some people like some easy beach reads…I’m not one of them. 😂
I am grateful for the time and space to dive into these books to think critically about my offerings, to continue to evolve and to sit with hard questions. I am deeply moved by Birthing Liberation by and think all doulas and birth givers should read it. While many of us know the dismal statistics around Black maternal health in this country, we may be less aware of the (racist) history of reproductive care that led us to this place. But Sabia makes the political personal with a meaningful through line of one person’s unique but also (tragically) universal story and the ways we can advocate and support to change that story. She also includes somatic exercises so we can feel and move through these heavy topics and care for our own needs while doing the work. Overall, I finished this book feeling inspired and hopeful—which is not an easy task with how much change is needed in birthing care in this country. Thank you for birthing this book into the world and being a critical voice so needed in this time.
I’m still making my way through Radical Healership by but so far I’m loving it!
