SAHARA Programs at the UN General Assembly
“If you are not at the table, you are on the menu.”
This week, Sahara Programs was proud to be at the table during United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) week in New York—building relationships, representing the communities we serve, and connecting local humanitarian work with global leaders and institutions.
From the halls of the United Nations to meetings with humanitarian, diplomatic, faith-based, philanthropic, and nonprofit leaders, this was an important week for Sahara Programs and our growing mission.
🌍 Highlights from the week included:
• Attending a United Nations General Assembly session
• Meeting Alistair Dutton, Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis
• Engagement with a United Nations Assistant Secretary-General
• Meeting with senior UNHCR leadership
• Engagement with the Prime Minister of Iceland
• Meeting with the First Lady of Australia
• Engagement with leadership from the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations
• Meeting with the General Secretary of the New York Council of Rabbis
• Discussions with Qatar Charity
• Engagement with the Al Maktoum Foundation
• Meetings and conversations with UNDP representatives
• Connecting with nonprofit and humanitarian leaders from across the United States and around the world
For Sahara Programs, UNGA week was not simply about being present—it was about building partnerships that can translate into action.
Every conversation created an opportunity to expand healthcare, education, refugee assistance, family empowerment, and humanitarian services for communities that need them most.
Sahara Programs started by serving families at the community level. Today, we are bringing those experiences and voices into rooms where international partnerships and humanitarian priorities are shaped.
We are grateful for how far this mission has come—and even more excited about where these new relationships can take us.
The goal is simple: turn conversations into partnerships, partnerships into resources, and resources into measurable impact.
