Today's feature is Jackie Liu!
Jackie (she/they) is a third-year medical student at Harvard Medical School and is passionate about health equity, weight-inclusive healthcare, LGBTQ+ health access, and policy advocacy broadly.
Jackie’s path to medicine began as an undergrad at the University of Maryland, where her time as a gender studies major, Asian American student advocate, and public health research assistant prompted her to think about the ways in which history, social scripts/structures, and policies impact one’s ability to access and engage in health, at no fault of their own. They spent a year doing qualitative health policy research on maternal healthcare access before coming to medical school.
She now engages in policy advocacy at the AMA and the Massachusetts Medical Society. They also serve as Chair of the Sexual and Gender Health Subcommittee for Doctors for America, collaborating with other DFA members to advance advocacy efforts for LGBTQ+ patient rights. They work to advance weight-inclusive healthcare through serving as Co-Advocacy Chair for the Medical Students for Size Inclusivity and conducting medical education reform efforts at HMS.
In her free time, Jackie likes to weightlift, bake, crochet, knit, and hang out with her cat Lily.
