The fastest way to lose talent is to ignore their reality.
Silence is expensive.
People don't leave jobs. They leave environments.
And the environment most likely to push great people out
is one where they don't feel seen, heard, or valued.
The warning signs are almost always there:
β The one who stopped speaking up in meetings
β The high performer whose output quietly declined
β The team member who used to bring ideas and stopped
Silence in your people is not contentment.
It's resignation.
And by the time someone hands in their notice,
they've usually already left mentally months ago.
The cost of ignoring it:
Recruitment. Onboarding. Lost institutional knowledge.
Destabilised teams. Momentum setbacks.
The cost of addressing it:
A conversation. Curiosity. Genuine attention.
The most retentive leaders I know
are the ones who stay close to the reality of their people
not just the metrics.
Listen before it's too late.
