If losing weight were as simple as “eat less and exercise more,” it would have worked by now.

If you’ve tried diets, lost weight only to gain it back, or feel like your body has changed and what used to work no longer does, this free community talk is for you.

BEYOND WEIGHT LOSS — FREE COMMUNITY TALK
📅 Tuesday, September 8 | 7–8 PM

Join Sivani Ishaya, who holds a Master of Science in Ayurveda & Integrative Medicine, for a different way of understanding weight and health.

Never heard of Ayurveda? That’s okay.

Often called the “science of yoga,” Ayurveda is a comprehensive system of health and healing that recognizes each person as unique and seeks to create balance in body, mind and consciousness.

Rather than assuming the same diet or health advice should work for everyone, Ayurveda looks at the individual — including constitution, digestion and metabolism, current imbalances, age and stage of life, environment, daily rhythms, sleep, and mental and emotional well-being.

Food is important, but it’s only one part of the picture.

Instead of simply asking:

“How do I lose weight?”

Ayurveda invites a bigger question:

“What does my body need to become healthier?”

That’s what Beyond Weight Loss is about.

This is not another diet, cleanse or quick fix. It’s an opportunity to understand your body differently and learn why a one-size-fits-all approach to weight and health may not be working for you.

You don’t need to know anything about yoga or Ayurveda to attend.

If you’ve struggled with your weight, give yourself one hour to learn a new way of approaching your health!

And this is a conversation, not a lecture come with your questions come with your challenges you will be met! 💕

It’s FREE — reserve your spot here:

Hope to see you tonight, and if I don’t, I’ve written something to guide the practice this evening. As you may know today is the feast day of the black Madonna. We are also an evening away from the next eclipse. A potent threshold.
So here is what is on my heart:

Tonight we find ourselves at an unusual threshold.

Today is the feast of Our Lady of Częstochowa, the Black Madonna—an ancient image of Mary whose dark face has been gazed upon by pilgrims for centuries.

And tomorrow night, the Moon will move almost completely into the shadow of the Earth.

So tonight, I want to consider something our culture often teaches us to fear:

the dark.

We tend to associate light with knowing, goodness, clarity and awakening. And we often imagine darkness as its opposite.

But the spiritual traditions give us another understanding.

There is a darkness that is not the absence of God.

There is a darkness in which God is hidden.

The womb is dark.

The seed begins its transformation underground.

Christ enters the darkness of the tomb before resurrection.

And in the yogic tradition, transformation often begins when we become quiet enough to enter the interior places we normally avoid.

The Katha Upanishad says:

“The Self, hidden in the hearts of all, does not shine forth; but it is seen by subtle seers through their sharp and subtle intelligence.”
— Katha Upanishad 1.3.12

Hidden in the heart.

Not absent.

Hidden.

And perhaps that is one way to understand the eclipse.

The Moon does not disappear when it enters the Earth’s shadow.

Nothing has happened to the Moon.

Our relationship to the light has simply changed.

And this is true in our own lives.

There are seasons when we cannot see what is happening.

We don’t know where something is going.

An identity is changing. A relationship is changing. Something we believed is falling away. Something new is forming, but we cannot yet name it.

Our instinct is often to get out of that place as quickly as possible—to solve it, understand it, illuminate it.

But perhaps some things cannot be rushed into the light.

Perhaps they have to be formed in darkness.

Mary understood something about this.

Before she became the mother holding the Christ child in the light, she carried him invisibly within her.

She consented to something she could not possibly understand.

Her response in Luke is extraordinarily simple:

“Let it be with me according to your word.”
— Luke 1:38

That is surrender.

And yoga asks something very similar of us.

Not passivity. Not resignation.

But the willingness to stop demanding that we know exactly what comes next.

The Black Madonna can remind us of the Divine Mother who remains present in the places where we cannot see—the mother of the womb, the earth, the night, the mystery.

And the eclipse gives us this same image in the heavens:

Light entering shadow.

And then emerging again.

So perhaps our practice tonight isn’t about reaching for more light.

Perhaps it is about becoming quiet enough to discover that the Divine is present even when the light disappears.

As you move through your practice, you might simply hold one question:

What in me is asking to be allowed to remain unknown for a little while longer?

Not fixed.

Not explained.

Not forced into clarity.

Simply held.

Like the seed beneath the earth.

Like the child within the womb.

Like the Moon passing through shadow.

And perhaps our prayer tonight can be very simple:

May I trust what is being formed in the dark.

What if one of the most powerful tools for calming stress and anxiety was something you already carry with you every day?

Your breath.

On September 12 & 13, from 1–4 PM, California-based breathwork practitioner Tatiana Vatury is coming to ASET Center to teach you how to use your breath to work directly with your nervous system.

This isn’t simply about “taking a deep breath.”

Tatiana has completed 400+ hours of breathwork training and spent four years studying energy healing at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing—a depth of training rarely available in our community.

Over two afternoons, you’ll learn practical breathing techniques you can return to when you’re anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, having trouble settling down, or simply want to feel more grounded in your body.

The beauty of breathwork is that once you learn it, the tool is yours.
No equipment. No appointment. Your breath goes everywhere you do.

A rare opportunity for us is coming to Washington this September.

September 12 & 13 | 1–4 PM | ASET Yoga Center

Tatiana Vatury is traveling from California to lead The Healing Power of Breath, an experiential weekend exploring breath as a powerful practice for healing, nervous system regulation, emotional release, and deeper spiritual connection.

What makes this opportunity particularly special is Tatiana’s depth of training.

She trained personally for four years with Barbara Brennan, author of Hands of Light and one of the most influential pioneers in the field of energy healing. Tatiana also brings 400+ hours of specialized breathwork training to her work.

For those already engaged in healing or spiritual practice, conscious breathwork offers a way to work directly with the body, emotions, nervous system, and energy field—not simply understand our patterns intellectually.

The breath can help us soften what we’ve been holding, move and release energy, reconnect with our vitality, and deepen our capacity for presence.

And because the breath is always with us, what you learn becomes a practice you can continue long after the weekend is over.

Tatiana is also offering a limited number of private energy-healing sessions while she is in Washington, providing an opportunity to experience her work one-on-one.
