Welcome to Rotary, Larry!

This week, we are proud to officially welcome Larry Irwin as the newest member of the Washington Rotary Club!

Larry is no stranger to our club, and we’re excited to have him join us as we continue working together to serve, strengthen, and make a difference in the Washington-Wilkes community.

Please help us give Larry a warm Rotary welcome! πŸ‘

From Chicago to Washington, Georgiaβ€”Rotary has always been about making a difference.

At this week’s meeting, Paula shared a look back at the history of Rotary International, which began in Chicago in 1905, before bringing the story closer to home with the history of the Washington Rotary Club, founded in 1962.

More than six decades later, that history is still being written. Paula highlighted many of the projects our club has taken on through the yearsβ€”projects that have supported our schools, strengthened our community, helped neighbors in need, and made a lasting impact right here in Washington and Wilkes County.

The projects may change with the needs of our community, but the mission remains the same: Service Above Self.

We’re proud of where we’ve been, grateful for the Rotarians who built this legacy, and excited about the work still ahead. πŸ’™πŸ’›

According to a 2024 survey of 1,000 people commissioned by Challenge Butter, 86% of respondents enjoy breakfast for dinner. The other 14% probably haven’t tried Rotary’s pancakes yet.

This week, the Washington Rotary Club enjoyed learning more about Smith Farm Supply and the wide range of services this longtime local business provides to our community.

With 14 locations, Smith Farm Supply has grown considerably while holding tight to the values highlighted in its motto: β€œFamily. Service. Tradition.” At the Washington location, Doug Dent manages fertilizer and bulk feed operations, helping area farmers, landowners and homeowners find solutions tailored specifically to their needs.

One of the biggest takeaways from the program? Smith Farm Supply does a lot more than many people realize. Their services include:

* Custom feed formulated to meet specific livestock needs
* Custom fertilizer blends based on individual applications
* Soil sampling and analysis β€” and it’s not just for farms. They can test your home lawn and help determine exactly what it needs.
* Lawn spraying and pest control, including treatments for ants and other unwanted pests
* A major selection of Purina products, with Smith Farm Supply recognized as the largest Purina dealer in the Southeast

From feeding livestock and improving pastures to helping homeowners grow a healthier lawn, Smith Farm Supply combines agricultural expertise with the kind of personal service that has kept customers coming back for generations.

Thank you to Smith Farm Supply and Doug Dent for sharing more about the company, its Washington operations and the many ways they serve our agricultural and local community.
