Swim lessons are an important layer of protection against drowning. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that many children may be ready to start lessons as early as age 1. 🏊‍♀️💙

When choosing a swim program, keep these questions in mind:

✔️ Are instructors trained and certified through a nationally recognized learn-to-swim program?
✔️ Are lifeguards on duty with current CPR and First Aid certifications?
✔️ Do they teach safe habits in, on, and around water?
✔️ Do they teach children what to do if they unexpectedly end up in the water?
✔️ Do they offer adapted aquatics for children with special health needs or developmental disabilities?

Remember: swim lessons are just one layer of water safety. Active supervision, pool fencing, and life jackets also play a critical role in preventing drowning.

Watch for:

▪️ Frequent headaches or stomachaches
▪️ Excessive worry, sadness, or hopelessness
