Our little fairy gardening activity combined fine-motor skills, sensory exploration, planning, problem-solving, following directions, and imaginative play—all while having FUN! 🪴🧚‍♀️

*Leadership has never been about having all the answers. For me, it has been about showing up, listening, learning, taking risks when necessary, and—most importantly—serving others well.

I’m incredibly grateful for the people who have trusted me, challenged me, encouraged me, and walked alongside me throughout this journey. Any success I’ve experienced is a reflection of the amazing people I’ve had the privilege of working with and the families we have been blessed to serve.

Building Guidepost has taught me that leadership is ultimately about people, purpose, and perseverance. I’m still learning every day, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to grow.

Thank you to Influential Women for allowing me to share my story and for recognizing the women who are working hard to make a difference in their communities and in the lives of others.

Does my child need school therapy, private therapy, or both? The answer may surprise you! 📚💜

Many parents believe that if their child receives occupational therapy, speech therapy, or physical therapy at school, they don’t need private services. In reality, school-based and private therapy have different goals—and many children benefit from both.

🏫 School-Based Services
School therapy is designed to help a child access and participate in their education. Services are provided when a disability affects school performance, and therapy focuses on educational goals such as classroom participation, handwriting needed for schoolwork, communication in the classroom, or safe mobility at school.

🏥 Private Therapy
Private therapy is medically based and focuses on helping a child function in everyday life. Therapy may address fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, feeding, speech and language development, social communication, strength, balance, self-care skills, and other areas that impact home, community, and overall quality of life.

✨ Why do some children receive both?
School and private therapists often work toward different—but complementary—goals. Together, they can help children:
• Build stronger communication skills
• Improve independence at home and school
• Develop motor skills and coordination
• Increase confidence and participation in everyday activities
• Reach their fullest potential across all environments

Every child is unique. Some children do very well with school services alone, while others benefit from adding private therapy to target medical or developmental needs that extend beyond the classroom.

💙 Learning Through Play with Ms. Alaina, OTR/L! 💙

Today’s occupational therapy sessions were full of movement, smiles, and meaningful progress as our patients worked alongside Ms. Alaina, OTR/L to strengthen both gross motor and fine motor skills.

Through fun, engaging, and evidence-based activities, children practiced:
🧩 Fine motor coordination and hand strength
✋ Bilateral coordination
🎯 Visual-motor integration
🤸 Gross motor planning, balance, and coordination
💪 Core strength and body awareness

While it may look like play, every activity has a purpose. Occupational therapy uses intentional, research-based interventions to help children build the skills they need for greater independence in school, at home, and in everyday life.
