Enlighten Integrated Health We take a practical, whole body approach to care. At Enlighten, we believe healing happens best when providers work together.

By combining chiropractic, massage, physical therapy, naturopathic care, and laser therapy, we focus on improving function, supporting recovery, and helping your body heal over time. Welcome to **Enlighten Chiropractic & Holistic Health**, an integrative clinic in Wasilla, Alaska focused on delivering collaborative, results-driven care for chronic pain, injury recovery, functional wellness, and preventative health. We are a multidisciplinary team committed to helping patients feel and function better through a combination of chiropractic care, naturopathic medicine, medical massage, and low-level laser therapy.

**Dr. Ralf Schurmann, DC** brings over 20 years of clinical experience in chiropractic care with a focus on structural correction, pain relief, and restoring mobility. He is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and provides individualized, evidence-informed care to help patients recover from injury, improve function, and live pain-free.

**Dr. Alana McLaughlin, ND** is a naturopathic doctor who specializes in identifying and treating the root causes of chronic health concerns. She uses functional medicine, in-depth lab testing, and natural therapeutics to support hormone balance, thyroid function, digestion, fatigue, and overall wellness.

**Samantha Dowd, LMT, LDT** is a licensed massage therapist with over 15 years of experience, specializing in body balancing, neuromuscular reeducation, and therapeutic exercise. She works closely with the doctors to deliver integrated, hands-on care that improves movement, supports recovery, and addresses the root of musculoskeletal dysfunction.

**Our Medical Massage Therapist Team** focuses on outcome-based massage that supports clinical care plans and improves long-term function. Medical massage plays a vital role not only in recovery from pain and injury but also in ongoing wellness and prevention. Regular bodywork can reduce inflammation, restore balance, and improve overall performance—making it an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Our mission is to treat the whole person—not just the symptoms—and to create an environment where patients are supported, educated, and empowered to take an active role in their health.

We do this… so you can do that. 🤍

The hike. The workout. The camping trip. Getting down on the floor to play with your kids—and back up again.

Those are the moments we’re thinking about when we care for you.

At Enlighten Integrated Health, we want to know what you’re missing and what you’re working toward, so we can help you get back to more of the life you love.

What’s your “I want to get back to…”? 🤍

8 weeks. One goal. Showing up for myself. 🤍

Melissa and I have teamed up for an 8-week journey focused on building strength, improving metabolic health, and creating sustainable habits that actually fit into real life.

Between running a business, raising kids, and juggling everything else, it’s easy to put yourself last. But I’m making the commitment to prioritize my own health, too.

This isn’t about chasing a number on the scale. It’s about getting stronger, feeling better, supporting my body, and proving that consistency matters more than perfection.

I’ll be sharing pieces of our journey along the way—the workouts, the challenges, and the progress! I’ll post BEFORE & AFTERS when there is an AFTER 🫣

Here’s to 8 weeks of showing up, putting in the work, and investing in ourselves. 💪🤍

What if you didn’t have to figure it all out on your own? ❤️

We see it all the time. People who genuinely want to feel better, have more energy, get stronger, and feel confident in their bodies again.

But between figuring out what to eat, which workouts actually work, and how to stay consistent when life gets busy… it can feel overwhelming before you even begin.

And that’s exactly why we created something different.

We’ve partnered with Heers Fitness to bring you an 8-Week Body Reset that combines personalized fitness, nutrition, body contouring, and wellness support into one experience.

Here’s what your 8 weeks look like:

💪 Your own fitness coach. Eight one-on-one sessions with Heers Fitness to build strength, confidence, and a routine that fits your lifestyle.

✨ A little extra help for those stubborn areas. Six Zerona body contouring laser sessions at Enlighten, a noninvasive treatment designed to support inch reduction.

🥗 Nutrition that makes sense. Guidance to help you fuel your body, create healthier habits, and stop feeling like you have to start over every Monday.

🌿 Support from the inside out. Wellness supplements and our Brain Boost laser protocol are incorporated into your program.

📊 Progress you can actually track. Beginning and ending InBody assessments to look at changes in body composition beyond the scale.

❤️ People in your corner. Guidance, encouragement, and accountability throughout your eight weeks.

The best part? You don’t have to know where to begin. That’s our job.

You bring the willingness to show up for yourself. We’ll bring the plan, the tools, and the support.

This isn’t about becoming a completely different person.

It’s about getting back to feeling like YOU.

And we would love to be part of that journey.

Your eight weeks can start with one simple message.

💬 Send us RESET and we’ll help you choose your start date!

There was a period of my life when I used to joke that everyone else was my memory.

Someone would say, “Remember when we did this?” and tell me the whole story—and I would have absolutely no recollection of it. My memory isn’t like that anymore, but that period of my life still has a lot of blank spots.

It was also one of the most stressful periods of my life.

And there’s science behind that. Chronic stress and prolonged exposure to stress hormones like cortisol can affect the prefrontal cortex, which helps with attention and working memory, as well as the hippocampus, which plays a major role in forming memories. Long-term stress has even been associated with structural changes in these areas.

But stress is only one possible piece.

That’s what I love about how Dr. Alana approaches memory and brain fog. She asks why. Stress? Sleep? Nutrient deficiencies? Hormones? Inflammation? Gut health? The gut and brain are constantly communicating, so sometimes supporting the brain means looking at what’s happening throughout the body.

There isn’t one answer for everyone. It’s about finding the pieces of your puzzle.

I don’t struggle with my memory like I did then, but there are still pieces of those years that other people remember for me.

And that’s a strange feeling—to know you lived something, but not really remember being there.

A dedicated 8 weeks can change a lot.

What if you stepped off the plane for your winter vacation excited to put on your swimsuit—not because you suddenly have a “perfect” body, but because you feel stronger, more confident and have more energy than you’ve had in years?

What if you headed into the holidays without dreading the food or telling yourself you’ll just start over in January?

Instead, you already have momentum.

You’ve spent 8 weeks building strength, learning how to fuel your body, creating habits you can actually maintain and watching your progress along the way.

And for those 8 weeks, you’re not trying to figure it all out by yourself.

Heers Fitness + Enlighten Integrated Health are bringing together training, nutrition support, Zerona fat loss laser, InBody progress tracking, detox support and our Brain Boost laser protocol into one 8-week Body Reset.

Your PFD can be spent a hundred different ways.

What if this year, you invested it in how you want to feel?

$1,200 per person.

And if you know you’ll do better with someone beside you—bring them. Sign up and train together and you’ll both receive additional wellness + recovery bonuses.

Eight weeks from now is coming either way.

This could be you.

I’ve learned that how I start my morning has a huge impact on how I handle the rest of my day.

I have a very busy brain, and the moment my eyes open it can feel like everything I need to do that day comes flooding in at once. Not in a productive way. More like that immediate feeling of slight panic and overwhelm when your brain is trying to hold the entire day at the same time.

So one of the most important parts of my morning is actually not letting myself go there.

I start with a few minutes of intentionally quieting my mind. I remind myself that I don’t have to carry the entire day right now. I can break it down into bite-size pieces and deal with what is in front of me first.

Then I get up, drink some water, move my body and get morning light whenever Alaska decides to provide it. None of it is elaborate. It’s simply how I intentionally prepare my brain and body for the demands of my day instead of allowing the demands of the day to take over first.

I recently listened to Jay Shetty’s conversation with Andrew Huberman on simple habits that can transform your health, and so much of it resonated with me because these are practices I’ve incorporated into my own life and have found incredibly helpful.

For me, building resilience isn’t about creating a life without stress. That certainly isn’t my life. It’s learning how to experience stress without allowing everything to come flooding in at once.

One thing at a time. One piece at a time.

If you want to dive deeper into the science behind why these habits matter—including the natural cortisol rise we want in the morning, why the timing of that cortisol matters, light exposure, sleep, stress, movement and so much more—I highly recommend listening to the full conversation.

I’ll put the podcast link in the comments.

A few years ago, I was going through one of the most stressful seasons of my life.

Major life changes, raising kids, and buying and rebuilding a business—all while struggling with Hashimoto’s flares.

The interesting part? My life didn’t suddenly become less stressful.

What changed was how my body learned to handle it.

I started monitoring my labs, paying attention to my stress patterns, doing daily nervous-system work, and learning to listen when my body was telling me it was reaching its limit.

Fast-forward to today, my thyroid antibodies are non- existent and my cortisol and stress markers look great.

That doesn’t mean I don’t have stressful weeks. I absolutely do. It means I’ve built a greater capacity to move through them without my body becoming completely overwhelmed.

And this is one of the reasons I believe so strongly in the way Dr. Alana approaches naturopathic care.

As she explains in this video, we can’t eliminate stress—but we can look at symptoms, lifestyle and labs to better understand how your body is handling it and what it may need to be better supported.

The goal isn’t a stress-free life.

It’s a body that’s better equipped for the life you’re actually living. 🤍

What does your squat tell us? 👀

In this case, you can see his body shift during the squat.

The interesting part? His low back had been bothering him—but his ankle was part of the story.

A previous injury had left him with limited ankle flexion. When the ankle couldn’t move the way it needed to, his body found another way to get through the movement.

That’s compensation.

Sometimes where you feel the problem isn’t where the problem started.

This is why we assess the whole body instead of just chasing the painful spot.

Your ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, and core all have to work together to create a balanced squat. When one piece isn’t moving well, your body finds another way.

That’s where physical therapy, massage therapy, and chiropractic comes in. Instead of just chasing where it hurts, we look at how your whole body is moving and help figure out the why behind the compensation.

Now go try a squat in front of the mirror. 😏
Are you straight—or are you surprised by what you see?

☀️ The sun came out in Alaska, so I took the hint.

I’m really good at filling every available minute with something that needs to be done. Work, kids, the clinic, the never-ending list… and somehow getting outside can start to feel like something I’ll do if I have time.

But sometimes taking care of ourselves really is this simple.

Natural daylight helps our brain know when it’s time to be awake and alert and helps regulate the rhythm that eventually tells our body when it’s time to wind down and sleep.

And with our Alaska daylight disappearing a little more every day, I’m trying to be intentional about actually getting outside and using it.

Today that looked like a walk in the sunshine. 🍂☀️

Nothing complicated. No perfect wellness routine.

Just get outside when you can.

And if you’re in Alaska and the sun is shining… GO USE IT. 😂
