Rise Above Recovery Providing trauma‑informed mental health and behavioral health services in Alaska. Currently DBH certified and Medicaid approved.

Mission

Rise Above Recovery provides accessible, person centered behavioral health and substance use services through secure telehealth and community based supports across Alaska. We remove barriers for individuals in rural and remote communities and support clients navigating the justice system—including DOC, courts, probation, and parole. Our mission is to combine lived experience, highly trained mental health professionals, and evidence based best practices to promote recovery, accountability, and long term stability. We partner with families, communities, and justice agencies to help every person build a healthier, safer, and more meaningful life. Philosophy
Rise Above Recovery believes every person has the capacity for change when provided with the right tools, support, and accountability. We honor the strengths and lived experiences of our clients and our team, recognizing that many Alaskans face complex challenges including trauma, addiction, rural isolation, and justice involvement. Our approach is trauma informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in evidence based best practices for substance use and mental health treatment, delivered by highly trained clinicians and peer professionals through secure telehealth and community partnerships. We work collaboratively with families, rural communities, and justice agencies to help clients meet requirements, rebuild trust, and create a future stronger than their past. Vision

Rise Above Recovery is at the Alaska State Fair one last time. We are joined by NAMI Alaska (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Come by and see us to get more information on our organizations for yourself or your families.

Shout out to Sam Garcia for Serenity Spot, which allows for multiple organizations to join forces to get helpful respurces in the community. We are also meeting so many wonderful peolle fighting the good fight, which will help with referrals that best serve the clients seeking help. There is no one-size-fits-all in any organization.

August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day.
In Alaska, this isn’t just a national observance — it’s our reality. Overdose touches our villages, our towns, our families, and our justice‑involved communities. Too many Alaskans have been taken by fentanyl, opioids, m**h, alcohol, and polysubstance use.

At Rise Above Recovery, we honor every life lost and stand with every person still fighting.
We see the parents rebuilding trust, the young adults battling trauma, the folks returning from DOC who want a second chance, and the rural Alaskans who’ve had to fight for care that should’ve been accessible.

This month, we remember.
We raise awareness.
We commit to doing better — together.

Story time: Random Act of Kindness at the state fair

This afternoon, a young boy of about age 9 stopped by the Serenity Spot booth. He spun the wheel at the table and won the opportunity to do a random act of kindness. What this looks like is that he got to choose a flower with a positive affirmation wrist band on it and was instructed to choose a person to give it to as a random act of kindness. This little boy's face lit up immediately! He turned around and scanned the crowd before he spotted his intended target. He braved the treck across the walkway, with all the traffic going back and forth, so that he can give the flower to an elderly woman in a wheel chair.

Witnessing this act of kindness was so heartwarming it brought tears to MY eyes! Due to the crowds I was unable to see her reaction, but I imagine it was very much the same.

Thank you, Sam Garcia, for continuing this tradition at the booth so that those of us supporting it can keep it going when we have our shift.
