Founded in 1898 by Sarah Donaldson, it’s a nonprofit residential care home in Waterbury for women 60 and older who want a little extra support without giving up their independence.

Thanks to the Southmayd Foundation subsidizing nearly half the cost of living, all-inclusive private room rates start at just $1,900 a month, covering meals, housekeeping, laundry, medication management, and 24-hour care. It’s a level of support that’s genuinely rare to find at this price, anywhere.

Southmayd Home has been a home for elder women in Waterbury’s Overlook district since the 1890s. We’re a nonprofit Residential Care Home, licensed by the State of Connecticut, and a genuinely affordable alternative to traditional assisted living.
