After completing physical therapy and dry needling treatments for back pain, Sam has made great progress in strength, mobility, and overall function. Dry needling helped reduce muscle tension and pain, allowing for improved movement and better tolerance to training. Sam is now off to swim collegiately at BYU. Let’s all wish him good luck! 🍀

Concentric and eccentric exercises both build shoulder strength—but they do it in slightly different (and complementary) ways.

Concentric (muscle shortening)

This is when the muscle contracts and shortens as it produces force.
What it helps with:

* Producing force (lifting, pushing, throwing)
* Building basic strength and power
* Improving muscle activation and coordination

⸻

Eccentric (muscle lengthening under tension)

This is when the muscle controls movement while lengthening.
Example: slowly lowering the dumbbell back down.

What it helps with:

* Controlling and decelerating movement (very important for the shoulder)
* Reducing injury risk (especially rotator cuff issues)
* Improving tendon strength and resilience
* Building strength through a greater range of motion

Dry needling + TENS = powerful combo for elbow pain đź’Ş

Dry needling helps release tight muscles and trigger points, while TENS works through the Gate Control Theory of Pain to calm pain signals.

Less pain → better movement → faster recovery.

Congratulations to our student Megan on such a wonderful achievement! If you see her at the clinic or school, make sure to congratulate her!🥳👏

Congratulations to Megan Knudtson, Master of Athletic Training student graduating this May, on earning acceptance into the Vail Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery Athletic Training Residency Program!
Megan is one of only two applicants selected nationwide, making this an incredibly competitive and prestigious opportunity. The ATC Residency prepares certified athletic trainers for advanced orthopaedic and sports medicine roles through immersive clinical and surgical experience, radiology education, research engagement, and sports medicine outreach.
This accomplishment reflects Megan’s commitment to clinical excellence, leadership, and continued professional growth. We are incredibly proud to celebrate her success and excited to see her continue to grow as a clinician and leader in our profession.
