Cedar Valley Hospice Cedar Valley Hospice has been Making Each Moment Matter for our patients, families and communities since 1979.

Cedar Valley Hospice is a not-for-profit multi-service agency that provides home care services to those with a life threatening illness, hospice services to those with a six month or less prognosis, grief support services to anyone struggling with the death of a loved one, and case management services for persons living with HIV and their families. Services are available to anyone regardless of where they reside, their age or diagnosis or their ability to pay. Cedar Valley Hospice serves a 15 county area in northeast Iowa, including offices in Waterloo, Grundy Center, Independence and Waverly.

LouDene Neverman's daughter Ann described her as a no-nonsense woman with a dry sense of humor. She was very proud of her family, and had 11 children, 31 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. LouDene developed dementia and, at the end of her life, had COPD. Her family called Cedar Valley Hospice to get extra support for both LouDene and her family.

One memory that stayed with Ann was LouDene's experience at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. She said: "Mom was transported to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home on her 93rd birthday. Two staff members came that morning to talked with mom and explained very gently to her that she was going to stay at the Hospice Home for a while and how they would take very good care of her. I will never forget that conversation and how they talked to her so calmly and professionally. They explained that she would get to take a “limo” (ambulance) ride on her birthday to the home so they could keep her comfortable and ride in style. They kept her very comfortable, and we couldn’t be more thankful. There was a tree outside her room that was filled with finches and one bright red cardinal. After Mom passed, they all flew away."

In observance of Labor Day, Cedar Valley Hospice offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7. The Hospice Home will remain open. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Volunteers are the heart 🧡 of Cedar Valley Hospice. This Release & Remember, we're honored to share some of our volunteers' personal experiences with Cedar Valley Hospice.

Carol McCombs was moved to volunteer after her mother, Edith Buchanan, died on our program. The first time Edith went to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home - which provides pain and symptom management as an alternative to a hospital visit - she said "This is the nicest hotel." Carol began volunteering in 2007, and continues to be a strong advocate for hospice services.
