This has been a wonderful exercise for our team. The shift in mindset is noticeable in how we interact as a team and how we interact with the families we serve

This past week, Locke Funeral Services in Waterloo, Iowa, completed the Outward Performance Workshop. We began this journey together in September 2025 and completed the workshop last Tuesday. The workshop was facilitated by Graystone's very own Michael Wellensiek, a Certified Arbinger Facilitator.

Over the past year, the leadership teams at Kearney and Flanner Buchanan have also completed the Outward Performance Workshop.

Kudos to Eric Locke, Ryan Crean, and Jan Smith for their commitment to investing in their people and intentionally focusing on culture within their respective organizations. Building and sustaining a strong culture takes time, commitment, and leadership—and these teams have demonstrated all three.

One of the most challenging aspects of grief is that the world doesn’t stop.

Work continues, schedules fill up, and life moves forward, even when it feels like yours has paused. This can be exhausting and, at times, isolating. You may wonder how to carry your grief while still showing up for daily responsibilities.

The truth is, there is no perfect balance. Some days may feel manageable, while others feel heavy. Giving yourself permission to move at your own pace is important.
