U.S. News & World Report recently ranked South Dakota #2 in the nation in its 2026 Best States rankings. The list looks at factors that help shape the quality of life for people who call a state home—including healthcare, education, opportunity, infrastructure, public safety, and more.

And right here in Watertown, we’re especially proud to see that same commitment to quality recognized at The Village of Harmony Hill.

For 2026, The Village of Harmony Hill has been named a U.S. News & World Report Best Assisted Living Community—and is the only assisted living community in South Dakota to receive this recognition this year.

Boys & Girls Club of Watertown, South Dakota came by for a giant game of hopscotch and turned our grand courtyard sidewalks into a colorful masterpiece during Chalkfest! 🌈

Using pressed flowers, our residents created these beautiful flower jars—turning simple materials into something they can enjoy and use in everyday life. 💐

And the best part? These little jars are as versatile as they are beautiful! They can be used for battery-powered decorative tea lights, loose change, a toothbrush holder, or whatever else inspires you. ✨

And we’re kicking things off with a burger that came ready to compete. 👀

Last Thursday in Pioneer Ridge, we served up the Hawaiian Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger—and this one was stacked!

🥨 Premium Hereford grilled chuck on a Hawaiian pretzel bun
🧀 Sharp cheddar + creamy provolone
🥓 Center-cut hickory-smoked bacon
🥬 Fresh greens, ripe tomato, onion & sweet pickles
🌶️ Served alongside sweet & tangy Dutch Pepper Slaw for the perfect crunch

Every bite brought the perfect mix of savory, smoky, cheesy, sweet, and tangy. 🤤

But the real question is… does this burger have what it takes to win the Burger Battle? 🏆🍔

Each week, Bri sets aside time to visit with Duane and read from his family's history book. Although they tried a lighted magnifying glass, the print is still too small for him to enjoy on his own.

What began as reading a book has become so much more. Together, they revisit cherished memories of grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, spouses, children, and the moments that shaped Duane's life.

🌟 A Legacy of Excellence, A Future of Promise! 🌟

We are thrilled to announce that the Benedictine Sisters of Mother of God Monastery have been honored with the 2026 Act of Excellence Award by the South Dakota Hall of Fame! 🏆✨

Since the late 1870s, these incredible women have been a cornerstone of care, education, and ministry in South Dakota. Facing a median age of 86 and a community of just 29 remaining sisters, they were faced with a pivotal choice regarding their beautiful 485-acre Harmony Hill campus in Watertown.

Instead of stepping back and selling the land, they leaned into their core values of hospitality, human dignity, and care for others. 🌱 During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, they transformed their campus into a thriving, multi-phase intergenerational community!

Here is what their pioneering vision has built for generations to come:
🏡 The Village at Harmony Hill: A state-of-the-art assisted living and memory care facility designed and opened in under 18 months (maintaining an unheard-of 89% occupancy!).
🎒 Our Little Village Learning Center: Now the largest early childhood learning program in Codington County, serving 120 students.
🏘️ Affordable Workforce Housing: Plus, exciting future plans for Lake Area Tech student housing, single-family homes, and South Dakota’s Challenger STEM Learning Center!

Today, where just 29 sisters once worked, Harmony Hill employs over 120 people, making it a true economic engine and a model of intergenerational living. As South Dakota Hall of Fame Board Chair Kitty Kinsman noted during the ceremony, "Transformation is to hit current reality at high velocity and energy, and watch it break apart into a million tiny pieces upon impact." The Sisters didn't just transform their campus; they planted seeds that will bloom for centuries. 🌳🕊️
