Avinoam Lerner - Cancer & Trauma Recovery Helping people facing cancer maximize the efficacy of treatment and increase their odds for recovery!

There is more to cancer wellness and recovery than a periodic visit to the doctor's office. Illness such as cancer is a whole person event; it affects us physically, yes, but it also affects us mentally and emotionally. Therefore, treatment must address more than just the physical body. I offer clients seeking to play a more active role in their recovery a practical, meaningful, and effective path through workshops, the Mindful Remission 8-week online program, as well as one-on-one programs.

A Client Perspective - What Got Me Through Cancer Treatment.

When I started chemo, I thought the hard part would be the physical side effects. The nausea, the fatigue, the way my body would change. I read everything I could find about side effects so I'd know what to expect, but I didn't prepare for the dread. It wasn’t the fear of dying that I found diffic...

You didn't choose what happened to you.
You do choose the story you tell about it.

"Am I worthy of healing?"
"Can I cope with this?"

The answers you give to those questions aren't facts — they're a story. And stories can be rewritten.

Years of talk-therapy? Still stuck in the same patterns? This may shed some light on why.

You go to therapy. You talk it through. You understand your story — where it started, why you respond the way you do, what it means. But, after years of talking about it, the pain is still there.

Trauma - The Unfinished Business of the Mind (new blog post)

Trauma – The Unfinished Business of the Mind. If despite years of therapy you still sense, the anxiety, hypervigilance, and the shame that surface at the strangest moments are still there. And if you continue to feel inexplicably unsafe in a world that, on paper, is no longer threatening. It may m

When someone learns you are going through cancer treatment, and they ask you how you're doing? They don't really want to know, because the answer might be something they're not ready to hear.

Obviously, they mean well, and they want to be involved, but you can feel them bracing for the answer.

Most patients tend to carry it alone, but that may be counterproductive to our healing.

You're doing healing wrong!!! Just stay positive🥺

A patient once told me, "My family means well, but their positivity is exhausting me." She wasn't ungrateful. She was healing — and she needed space to feel what was real. The pressure to stay positive can be one of the loneliest experiences during treatment. Watch this if you need permission to stop performing… and start feeling true.

1. What is psychoneuroimmunology, and why does it matter for cancer patients?

Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) Introduction There's a common sense that many people living with cancer describe: a sense that their emotional state — their fear, their stress, their hope — is somehow connected to what's happening in their body. Some of us call it the Mind-Body Connection, but moder...
