James O Hunter, 76, passed away on July 24, 2026 in Sarasota, Florida. He was born on June 21, 1950 in Wauchula, Florida to Albert Lee Hunter and Lillie Garneth Gill Hunter. He spent his entire life in Hardee/Manatee Counties, he made his living as a Project Manager and Site Manager at Bennett Contracting and Woodruff and Sons.

James is preceded in death by both parents, as well as his brother GW Hunter. He is survived by his wife Sally Hunter of Myakka City, Florida; his sons James E Hunter of Myakka City, Florida, and Joshua L Hunter and (wife) Anne Hunter of Bradenton, Florida; his sister Daisy Gant of Myakka City, Florida; and his granddaughter/favorite person Lillie Pearl Hunter.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at New Zion Baptist Church. Services will be at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Stephen Darley and Mr Ed Perry. In lieu of Flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.

Catherine “Cathy” Porterfield, 64, of Wauchula, Florida, passed away on July 23, 2026.

Cathy was born on June 13, 1962, in Bartow, Florida, to Johnnie “Rusty” Mooneyham and Ruby Mooneyham Adkins.

She had a lifelong love of animals and especially enjoyed spoiling her little Chihuahua, Honey. Creative by nature, Cathy enjoyed arts and crafts and often brought her own artistic touch to her work. She could frequently be found listening to a good Aerosmith album, shopping for things she probably did not need—as many of us do—or enjoying the peace and quiet of the country.

Some of her happiest moments were spent talking about her daughter and reliving funny memories of her grandchildren when they were small.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie “Rusty” Mooneyham and Ruby Mooneyham Adkins; her sister, Barbara Burton; and her brother, Philip Mooneyham.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Magnuson, and her grandchildren, Kennedy Magnuson and Liam Magnuson.

No formal service is planned at this time. Cathy’s family will remember the stories, laughter, and moments that formed their shared history.

Nancy J. Liberty Sharlow, 88, a resident of Crystal Lake Park, Wauchula, Florida passed away peacefully into the lord’s arms on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

She was born on April 16th, 1938, in Burlington, Vermont, the daughter of the late Francis S. Krupp and Dorothy G. (Muir) Krupp.

Nancy grew up in Williston, Vermont and was raised on the family farm with her two brothers Patrick and Oscar. Nancy attended Cathedral High School and graduated in 1956. She had a fierce compassion and love for animals from rescuing wild animals (birds with broken wings), nursing them back to health and releasing them back to the wild, to her pets who were part of the family and that she would do anything for.

Nancy worked at General Electric for several years’ eventually settling down to be a homemaker raising her two daughters and taking care of her niece, Patty Krupp. She was active and was a member of the women’s bowling league for several years. She also played and pitched on the women’s softball league when that was first introduced. Her true love was snowmobiling and she was in a club where every weekend they all ventured out on their escapades blazing the trails. Her passion was cooking, gardening and being outdoors, so that’s why it was no surprise when she moved to Florida in the early 2000’s to be in a warmer, more comfortable climate. She eventually was joined by her daughter Laurie who stood by and cared for her in her later years. We will miss her crazy...
